I just returned from yet another lovely experience in the Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) store in Napanee and I thought I‘d share.

We had some shopping to do and I needed some cleaning items so I thought I’d go to CTC rather than anywhere else... big mistake. I only needed 3 things, which I found, and proceeded to the checkout. I attempted to use the automated checkout, another big mistake, it refused to work. It scanned my items but then told me to wait for help. No help..!! I looked round but no one was on duty and the other clerks just ignored me, like “it’s not my responsibility”.

I have used these machines in other stores, Home Depot, Walmart etc and they work fine but the automated checkouts in CTC always seem to be in trouble. I have yet to make a successful transaction with these.

So with no one coming to my aide I picked up my items and proceeded to the Customer Service desk. (Yet another mistake; I should have just left.) There I was met by a middle-aged woman to whom I said “you should get them to take out those machines they never seem to work”. She snapped back at me “It’s not my store, I can’t get them to do anything”. I said to her “well they never seem to work”. She replied “It’s not my problem”. I then asked her if she was happy in her job. She replied “yes until she had to deal with customers”. I suggested she should find a position she would be happier in, and at this point I asked to speak to the Store Manager.

After some time and several calls on the PA system a man named Jerry showed up. I explained to him that the automated checkouts continued to cause problems and I also pointed out the attitude of this woman at Customer Service. I also suggested he explain to her that if she is unhappy with her position she should quit and let someone have it who actually understands the meaning of the phrase Customer Service. Jerry listened, obviously totally disinterested and didn’t make comment. I left realizing there was no point in continuing.

This only one issue out of many occurrences at this particular store. Ask anyone in the area and they will tell you the Napanee store is inferior to other CTC stores. Most people only go there because they don’t have the time to drive to Kingston or Belleville. This store has had a captive audience far too long and has become indifferent to the folks that keep it in business.

I for one am tired of dealing at this particular store for a number of reasons.
They are:
1) automated systems that the staff doesn’t appear to have sufficient knowledge of to make them work.
2) arrogant, ignorant, belligerent staff that are not capable of grasping the idea of “service”.
3) inflated prices that are not competitive with other stores in the area. (one of the items I purchased on this day, Spray Nine cleaner, was $14+ at CTC yet we discovered it was $12+ at Walmart. Same 2 litre size. That’s a big difference.)
4) items offered in local fliers are not available at this store and rain cheques are not offered.

So in summary:
I will never set foot inside this store as long as I live.
The money I would spend in CTC from this day forward I will spend most of it in other stores like Walmart.
If I need auto parts I will deal with the folks in CTC in Kingston on Hwy 38. They are great and actually offer service.
My deepest wish would be for CTC Napanee to close and the staff all lose their jobs. They deserve what they get.

I doubt it happened like that.. your probably just a whinney bitch that no one (including an automated machine) could stand to deal with. Of course my comment is pointlessly offensive... although so is you wishing that everyone at a store loose there job. You piece of shit scum bag how dare you, you had a bad experiance with a machine and one staff member and therefore you pass judgment on the lively hood of probably about 100 people? You should loose your job for a comment like that. It's people like you who wish ill will on others that makes this world as sad as it is.

go cry about it!! i would have to agree with this guy, he is pointing out that people are being vulgar and abusive to employees who may or may not deserve it. Although i bet ya think your being clever by posting the forum rules, this post pales in comparrison with many on this site.

I have to agree with the customer on this one. I live In Napanee myself and THAT Canadian Tire is a damned joke. They never order anything that's advertised in the flyers, their staff is, and I'm being very generous here, useless and it looks like they have never met a bar of soap in person.
The last time I was there, was shortly after they introduced the auto check out, and I ran into the same damned problem. After several unsuccessful attempts to get my products to scan, I asked for help. I waited around 2 minutes and saw that the staff was standing around picking their behinds, so I left. I haven't been back since, nor do I plan to shop there ever again.
I for one, hope they get stripped of their franchise.

You're a loser, you must be the fat a$$ manager that works the auto section,,,lol

anyways i agree with u , that can. tire sucks big time... they actully, screww my van up, and did nothing about it...
they put the wrong cooling in it , and when i try to tell them that GM recomends the pink cooling for my vehicle , they said that they never heard of that ..lol go figure hey..lol

then i went home and got my laptop and showed that fat ass manager the webpage that showed that gm did recomend the pink coolin liquid for my vehicle and still they never offer to drain it or replaced my money... I HATE THAT STORE AND I HAVE MADE MUILTIPLE COMPLAINS ON THE NET AND IN PERSON, as a matter of fact i even got arrest ''no charger's laid''at the store bcus of tryin to make my point... again i hate that store , and 75% of the staff in there, including u, ;;''u kno who u are''

Actually the OP here is completely correct. The same woman still works there and gives attitude to everyone she helps in customer service. How can a cranky old bitch keep a job about helping people for this long? Do they have no standards at all??

Actually I suspect that Guest-0164 and other comments here are actually that same Customer Service person. The attitude seems somewhat similar.

i have also had a bad experience at this store. during the ice storm in eastern ontario i stopped at that canadian tire to buy gas. i had been looking for some salt to put on my sidewalk and they had one bag left there. i went into the kiosk where the cashier informed me the price for the salt was double due to the storm and that was likely the last bag available for sale. the worst kind of price gouging in an emergency situation. i informed the cashier i bought a lot of gasoline at that store (since i drive 50000 klm a year ) but i would never again put a drop of gas from that store in my car. i hope the owner enjoys that extra six bucks he got for the sand considering how i am busy telling anyone that will listen what a total scumbag that manager is.
