When you wrote, "something like", so you are guessing.
If someone can actually report what the receipt says, that would be nice.
For instance, what's does it say about the return policy for defective "repair only" and "exchange only" products?
Does it say you can return it for a refund within 90 days, even if the box it's not in the original condition and packaging?
Because that's not what the web site says.
Can someone who knows what they are talking about provide an answer, please? Thank you1
Sure, if it is not in it's original condition (new) and packaging (resellable), then it is totally up to the store whether they take it back and whether they will give you a refund. Refunds are a privilege, not a right. Choose wisely before you buy and you never run into problems. Change of mind, after I've used it, would be unfair to the retailer and they can't guess everyones mindset. Use common sense.
The reason each receipt is different is while the writing on the BACK of the receipt is most always the same (default printed), the printing on the front which is printed with the printer at the till, is CUSTOM entered. While the receipts all have a generic template for each content, the warranty (how it's worded or even IF the receipt is to include exclusions) is at the discretion of that particular store.
For example: Store #1 may have configured it so it writes that the Bicycle they are purchasing is a 30 day adjustment (brakes/gears) only warranty).. Might mention the 1 year on the frame.
Store #2 may only mention the 30 day adjustment warranty
Store #3 may not even put it on the receipt and rely on the Warranty sheet where your receipt is IMPRINTED onto.
A lot of stores will actually record that tire chains have a 72 hour exchange only, no refunds or warranty.. The way it is WORDED is entirely up to each individual store.
That is why the poster likely put "something like"... It's custom set for each receipt and products in that store.
So, The Kid was wrong - the corporate policy doesn't guarantee a refund for opened packages.
And The Kid was also wrong about "repair only" and "exchange only" items - the corporate policy doesn't guarantee refunds for them, even within 90 days.
Sure, any store can decide what their policy will be for change-of-mind/unwanted returns.
But for defective items, the customer's rights in each provinces and territories are given by a Sale of Goods Act, Consumer Protection legilation, or similar laws. Important for consumers to know - the store can't just do whatever it wants.
Well, I'm glad we've 'cleared up some rumours'.
Maybe some stores 'bend the rules' for some of their customers, but CT's return policies are the worst of any major Canadian retailer.
With such poor policies, and people like The Kids telling lies about them, I don't think many consumers are worried about being "unfair to the retailer", LOL!
So consumers should indeed use common sense and choose wisely. By shopping at any store except Crappy Tire.
So, how come the receipt talks about the warranty, but not about the return policy?
Besides, if you were trying to discourage scammers, shouldn't you be letting everybody know that your policy is to never give a refund?
