    Reality is always funny.
If stores gave away everything for free, they wouldn't be 'retailers' anymore - they'd just be givers of gifts.

And the lucky recipients wouldn't be 'customers' anymore, either.

I guess the person who posted the joke wants to make consumers, who want decent service, sound foolish.

But any retailer who based their customer-service practices on the off-hand quip of a comedian would be the real fool.

It makes perfect sense, if you think about it for a few seconds.

A retailer who just gives things away, isn't really a retailer - they are a philanthropist.

It's a bit amusing to say, "If the customer is always right, then why isn't everything free?"

But it doesn't mean that customers who want decent servicem are expecting too much.

If Crappy Tire wants to sacrifice customer service to keep prices down, that's OK.

They should just be honest and up-front about it.

Shouldn't be too much to ask.

Re: Why Do CT Defenders Post So Many Lies Here?

I read through some of the old posts, and a lot of them are in regards to refunds for defective products sold by other retailers. Some of the Canadian Tire people think that they don't have to give refunds, but there are a lot of sources who say refunds are required. Ellen Roseman in particular, who also appeared recently on the CBC program, and repeated that products that aren't what the consumer expected are refundable.

Some of the Canadian Tire people had been saying that refunds are not required on certain defective items at other stores, so this is proof that Canadian Tires stores never have to give a refund on anything. But this is flawed logic, if these products have unique rules. For instance, certain garments are not returnable for health reason. But this wouldn't apply to defective garments, like swimwear, since they should not be re-sold (i.e. they should be returned to the manufacturer).

It's a similar thing with DVDs, CDs and computer software. There are special rules for the copyrights on digital media, so that the creator doesn't lose out on the royalties due to illegal copying. But again, if the media is damaged, and nobody could have ever used it, there shouldn't be a problem getting a refund.

I also saw one or two examples give by Canadian Tire, where other stores who have a policy against giving a refund for certain products, like appliances. If there is a law that says refunds are required in these cases, then these stores are also going against the law, and consumers should be complaining, and taking their business elsewhere.

Besides, if two stores are doing something that's against the law, that doesn't make it suddenly legal. Just like the traffic laws, if there are other drivers speeding on the 401, I can't just say to the cops "well speeding must be legal now - other people are doing it too".

Everybody should be following the laws, and not looking for loop holes and excuses from others who are breaking the same law.

They should individualy give each customer who donates the $2 for Jumpstart at the cash a receipt of some sort for the donation the've made so that rhe CUSTOMER can use it as a tax write off instead of Canadian Tire getting to write it off at the end of the year then brag about how "Candian Tire donated 1.2 Million dollars etc.. And look how great we are. Bullshit!! You're selfish and opurtunistic.

I have nothing against helping people in need or donating money. It's just when these corporate c**ksuckers claim the fame for themselves, well that really pisses me off. Thank you and have a nice day. (:

Tax receipts are typically not given under $20.00
Unless you annual income is $350.00 a $2 donation would not give you a tax break.

Charitable giving is not about bragging how much money somebody donated. It's about the end result, those who are less fortunate or in need and benefit from the giving. canadian tire Jumpstart is a not for profit entity of canadian tire corporation. In fact its actually a money loser for canadian tire because 100% of the proceeds generated go to the kids. All administration costs for the charity are covered by the corporation. So every dollar donated, that full dollar gets to the kids.
If you can still find a way to be rude ignorant and insulting about such a program, you've missed the point of helping those less fortunate, and i really hope you're never one of those people in need.

    Have an even better day

hey by the way, it's Canadian Tire JumpStart Day. Events going on at 488 stores across Canada. Be sure to donate.

The various lies, myths and general B.S. of Moaner1 are being addressed over in this thread.

Canadian Tire Cheats Generous Canadians Who Donate to Charities (Jumpstart)

"Don't forget to Donate" ... to the worthy cause of your choice. Maybe even to Canadian Tire Sucks Dot Net?

Just choose wisely, and take a long, careful look at the kind of people to whom you are trusting your hard-earned cash!

Re: Why Do CT Defenders Post So Many Lies Here?

As a past ct employee (I feel ashamed admitting any relation to this brand), I thoroughly believe there should be a behind the scenes camera. I personally have experienced the negative emphasized in every action taken by their heirarchy of emotional manipulation.

Most likely people who defend ct, have not worked at ct or are blind to the profuse problems that happen. I will list a few examples.

One time working with a returns cashier manager, they left an open bottle of pesticide on the counter-over night. Ironically they were pesticide certificate certified.

The store manager (past auto manager), called a customer a sh*thead in front of other employees and subordinates (extremely condescending and unprofessional behaviour)

I recall one time, a self check out cashier getting fired because she had stated she "did not like self check outs" and agreed "they took away jobs" (accidentally to the self check out maintenance staff), she left crying.

Many times, personally, I have managers stalk, print out and copy, distribute my personal facebook notes to power trip me into being 'scared' or 'intimidated' and I felt that violated my freedom of free speech (the notes had absolutely nothing to do with work ethic since I did not use the computers there for any such facebook activities).

I also encountered mechanics at the same store calling it 'Cambodian tire' and stated that China was too overpopulated and Chinese people were redundant (profoundly racist connotation), that statement and their personal opinion had nothing to do with their job. They mentioned this in front of an person of Asian descent. They seem to have no diversity training or respect for people of other backgrounds.

Often management, supervisors are asking employees (such as the langley store) to train them in their own department. (that's how their training is) -the staff seldom have a raise, they have no Christmas parties and even offer it as an 'option' to their staff or have their Christmas bonus taken away. After Zellers shut down, all of those laid off people came over to take supervisory jobs. Meanwhile staff who have been there 5, 10, or even 15 years, do not get a promotion.

I honestly don't feel like shopping at this store for a plethora of reasons and it deserves no defence.

    the list goes on.

this company really lacks moral support in their staff, diversity awareness and respect, and morals in many cases.

I am surprised it is still open.
