I find the Canadian Tire owners comments, or the ones claiming to be appalling. I'm offended that they still see women in subservient roles " your wife would be sewing your clothes from bulk fabric!!!" Women are capable, and certainly are becoming more and more influential in senior roles. Maybe not at CT where it still reeks of a good old boys play group as I suspect.

I'm chuffed to bits the man defended his wife and set the record that she's her own person and makes her own money in a top profession. Now what do we get from the CT men? We get more twists and stupidity from them on what was originally said. How sad that they have to stoop so low to malign her and women in general with "litigator wife's expertise". Do you mean that because she's a woman that her opinion, her expertise won't matter in civil/ corporate settings? Your posts, your attitude, your lack of professionalism in these matters leave a lot to be desired.

As a female university student I aim to reign in male chauvinistic tendencies in corporations like CT as too much energy and money has been wasted on such behaviour, instead of seizing opportunities before you. After all, if any of you guys have paid attention at all during the last shareholders meeting your numbers, your people, your CEO said that 20% of your customers drive 80% of sales. From the way you sound, you're acting like a bunch of goons who are destined to fail. So be it.

I for one will not shop or buy from you and have set my sights higher.

Faker posts are so easy to spot. No one called women subservient. Just another of faker advocates fake posts when faced with obvious common sense questions. If there is a litigator, then litigate.....or is it just another lie? Seems so easy a question. Too many personalities trying to deflect the obvious. Why? Something not ring true?

Nobody here said VIEWing the info...Your problem was that you did more than just VIEW didn't you. You got in trouble for taking down info from peoples drivers license. You denied it and challenged anybody to prove otherwise. Now you've got egg all over your face dillhole, and proved a liar. CT lies so easy to disprove.

Actually, I've never done or been accused of either. Faker advocates should get with the times (some would say reality)

No egg on this face, but I like mine easy over for breakfast....lol

Faker advocate is really stretching here....consumers can see it.

I guess the 546 customers I had on a shortened labour day call you a liar!

You see customers, you see why more and more of us don't shop there! You can't trust them at all. Those programs have shown that they will stoop to any level to make a buck from you. Just easier to walk across the parking lot to walmart or any other store for that matter.

Nice try though, keep trying! When my customer count is 12% higher than this day last year, I gotta believe I'm doing somethng right. Feel free to start your own business, if you think you can compete. Easy to be an armchair critic....how do you do in the real world? Hilarious!!

Interesting how the Crappy Defenders are just babbling on, without even offering any defence of their wrong-doing and recent round of lies.

I guess they'd rather talk about their sexism, then about their lies on gathering personal information.

Let's not forget the info from out west:

I know the report, I figured you didn't as you were proven a liar again as you've claimed, over and over again that THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A FIELD OF ENTRY FOR DRIVERS LICENSE NUMBER OR PERSONAL INFORMATION, EVER!!! And you were so sure that NONE existed. Well there you go. Big lie on your part and proven a liar yet again. So now you're telling the public what ? That the private information that was taken from their drivers license was ok and that NOW they can trust you after telling that lie?? Did you read the report fully? Here's a few key areas of the report which you conveniently don't mention AHEM!

[17] It further follows that the Calgary store contravened section 7(2),
since an organization cannot require someone to consent to collection of
personal information that is not necessary.

[10] Section 7(2) of PIPA is also relevant to this case. It provides as
follows:
An organization shall not, as a condition of supplying a product or
service, require an individual to consent to the collection, use or
disclosure of personal information about an individual beyond what
is necessary to provide the product or service.

Isn't that what, we the consumer advocates have been saying all along??? It just goes to show you CT -Aholè what's written down in the legislation is the law. And that your interpretation is self serving and erodes the intention of consumer protections and IS NOT THE LAW!
I see that you've also quietly dismissed the other links on the Canadian Tire privacy scandal in Quebec and mentioning the other privacy case in BC! So convenient of you. So yeah have a big cup of STFU liar liar Canadian Tire.

And then their follow-up lies:

Good summary of the CT lies on this topic.

Also consider this statement:

"2) the second store did not have a drivers license number on file"

Ok, so nothing was left in the system by the time the investigators showed up. But that doesn't prove that additional information hadn't been previously collected (as the complainant said), and then erased before the investigators started looking. After all, there was a place to enter this data: "one screen in the merchandise return system allowed for the collection of D/L or other ID numbers".

Also, something new to add to the "CT Lies List":

"3) The investigator agrees ... that the collection of name, phone number and address is reasonable"

Sounds so convincing, doesn't it? But it's just not at all true, because the investigator wrote, "I will consider only the collection, recording and retention of D/L numbers".

True to their word, the investigator offered no opinion on this topic.

Nice lie, Crappy People!

Here's another CT Lie:

"4) The computer returns system was re-designed in December of 2005"

Really? The report says that, huh? Well, let's have a look at the actual report, shall we?

"Canadian Tire Corporation Limited, in consultation with the CTDA, is in the process of redesigning the merchandise return computer program."

So, yet another CT lie. The report clearly does not say that "the system was re-designed".

What evidence has been produced to demonstrate that the redesigned program no longer accepts "the collection of D/L or other ID number"?

Has any report of a follow-up audit been posted here? No, not even close.

Has a screen image of the new screens been posted here? No, the Crappy People have vehemently refused.

So, are Canadian consumers supposed to simply take the word of the Crappy People, who have just been caught telling even more lies today, on this same topic?

No, it's going to take something more convincing than just the word of proven liars.

Nice job, Crappy People!

Nice job, Stores #419 and #428!

Yes, very credible, indeed!

Oh, but that was a few years ago. Consumers should just pretend it never happened, right?

Nice cover-up job, Crappy People!

Canadian Tire dillahole runs away again every time somebody disproves more of their lies with substantiated facts!

Strange how they're so silent on the Canadian tire embroiled in privacy rights scandal in Quebec. I wonder why that is? Is it more proof that customer information isn't as safe as they claim it is? I wonder what a thief would do with a social insurance number? the Canadian tire owner was so cheap that he reused the printed paper with the sensitive information on it for customer receipts. Making this yet another violation of the privacy act!!! Which proves another point: that they're incredibly stupid and careless!!! I wonder how much sensitive information is floating around out there because CT gave away social insurance numbers! And here they are acting all smug because Sony got hacked. Gee is my information safe? When CT is so cheap and stupid to reuse paper and give away sensitive information that can be used for identity theft!

As for privacy cases in Alberta, I wonder what got the customer so upset and drove him to file a complaint with the privacy commissioner? Is it because the customer was treated rather poorly by those two store owners (#419, 428). Is it because he caught the owners in a lie, asserting that they had the right to anything they want from a customers government ID? Is it because the customer was hassled during a returning an item? Is it because the customer was treated poorly by the two store owners? I gotta admit, they must've seriously ticked him off and done him wrong to file a complaint and be there subsequently to answer a whole lotta questions and whole lotta time with the Privacy Commisioner!

Is our information safe with CT? Should we give them our ID for refunds and exchanges? Based on their shocking violations with the privacy act in Western and Eastern Canada, I would say NO. Customer information isn't safe in their hands at all!

So

Is your information safe? You bet it is! Just don't put your credit card number into playstation online gaming... that could cost yoU!

This coming from CT when they were caught reusing printed paper with social insurance numbers on it and other highly sensitive information for customer receipts in Quebec. What's that, yeah they were giving away social insurance numbers lol. And CT has the nerve to mock Sony!!! All of this on CT's own! What's this about bringing a knife to a gun fight? Don't need a knife or gun or even show up at all to CT "gun fights" because they always miss, and always shoot each other in the foot.

Privacy violations from Western Canada to Eastern Canada. Should I find more articles for you hot shot?
What's that? What's that I hear? You drinking a big glass of STFU, then STFU because you don't know what you're talking about most of the time. Go back to the returns desk and start denying those returns. After all it does go towards your profit!

That's pretty damning for CT. They are strangely silent on the topic though. Makes me wonder if this was standard practise?

If those CT jerks start asking for ID during returns when you have a reciept, and you don't want to give your ID ...

[17] It further follows that the Calgary store contravened section 7(2),

personal information that is not necessary.

You guys continue to be ridiculous on most fronts.

Nobody said women are subservient LOL In fact my number one two and three in this store are all women, as are my office manager and accountant. The comment was WITHOUT RETAIL, your wife would be sewing clothes and you would be growing food. Why? Because there would be nowhere to buy stuff.

Breaking rules of privacy from the west coast to the east coast? okay offer up some more proof. I'm all for checking that out. You have one example of a violation, by one store, and a scrap paper gaff from another. In your mind that really constitutes coast to coast? lol 6 years ago, and yes there is an entirely new returns system in play since then.

As far as the investigation that uncovered no license information in one of the two stores investigated...i can ensure you it wasn't cleaned before the investigator showed up. Investigators don't call ahead to announce their arrival LOL They show up and begin.

While you're at it, here's the very first link that popped up with a search
Canadian Policy Brief > Staples Audit Reveals Privacy Violations
Not one example, not two...149 errors at 17 stores. THIS YEAR. Now that's coast to coast.

and a few other ridiculous items to cover
millionaires? yes...covered and proven, thank you.
denying legit returns? Lets look at it this way. You've done a good job, really, a proving what happens when you violate provincial policy as shown with the ID investigation. You get a violation or a complaint, you get an in depth investigation. so why is it that there is no illegal returns investigations?

Nice rational thoughts. Faker advocates just love to rant....it makes them feel important. That way they don't have to accomplish any REAL work. Keep living in the fantasy world of your relevance. How's it going with that call to the BBB to correct their misquoted article on returns? Any luck there yet?

What's this about rational thoughts? You wanted proof because you were so sure it didn't exist at all. Then 3 examples appeared. Oh you don't like those rational thoughts so you deny it's existence and ignore them. Awww, poor CT lacky is now sulking. What's that? You want to see more rational thought? I'm just scratching the surface here.

The full idiocy of it all shows up when you open your mouth! Situations that happen in one or two stores every couple of years do not make history for a company. Billions of dollars, millions of customers and over 50,000 employees strong. There will be upset customers sometimes. There will be poor management decisions sometimes. there will be defective products sometimes. There will be unhappy or rude employees sometimes. If it was all the time, most of the time or even a lot of the time, we'd be out of business. Too bad for you, we're not, and we won't be.

So your STFU means ummmm zero.

You want to talk about ignoring things, how about a comment on the Staples investigation? Play ball, you're up jackass
