There are "a few bad apples", huh? Well guess who hired them, didn't train them, didn't supervise them, and didn't fire them? Yup - owner and manager.

And, of course, some blame has to be passed to the customer, who didn't complain to the manager soon enough or loudly enough or using the correct phrases.

It's very entertaining, how this so-called "CT Manager" has decided that the CanadianTireSucks web site is a good place to whine about "how difficult it is" and "it's tough to do" and that "Situations like this are tough to field".

Well, guess what? The 'CT Manager' is the one who sucks, who is incompetent, and is the real "bad apple" in their own example.

    Nice going, Crappy Manager!
Hey, if you, as a consumer , wanted fully trained experts, you would have paid the 40-50% premium on the cost of goods. Yet, most mom and pop shops have gone away because they couldn't compete with the big box stores, ie. CTC, Walmart, Home Depot and the like. They would rather have lower prices and less competent staff.
Yep, low prices = more customers, not experts in the field.
    Sorry, it's reality

Nobody's asking for "fully trained experts".

Just cashiers who know how to do their basic job.

This would require managers who can do their basic job, too.

Not something we'll find at Crappy Manager's store, unfortunately.

Nice try, though, to again blame this on somebody else, too, LOL!

Again with the blanket statements. You look like such a fool when you claim things like won't find a good Manager, cashiers can't do their jobs. Are there shitty managers...yes. Ditto for cashiers, floor staff, receiving staff etc....
but to suggest it's the way it is across the board only displays your ignorance further.

Care to explain why my local Walmart has 12 self serve checkouts? What an idiot you are.

No 'blanket statements'. Just summarizing the Crappy Manager's confessions of incompetence.

Gee, I noticed some Crappy Tires with self-checkouts, too. Same as Walmart, for once.

What's really hilarious, is the incompetent CT cashier wasn't even shown by their Crappy Manager how to use a Crappy Tire card at their own Crappy Tire store!

Self checkouts = less labour cost = higher profits. Sounds like a good business plan. Customers can check out faster and not wait in line = better customer satisfaction. Yep, looks like a smart business. Now if we could find a way to charge a membership fee like Costco, that would be sweet.

A membership sucker fee for the screwed? Genius! Don't forget to charge them a nuisance fee if they ask for refunds. Now you can have regular money fights with other CT owners and go to the driving range with gold plated golf balls. Money in the bank!

There IS a way they can swipe your card, but it takes longer, and if we are caught doing that we can be in serious trouble..
We have no way to select between chip or swipe on the cash, it's an automatic detection. If you swipe and it reads there's a chip, it will tell you to insert the chip. There is a way to work around it and fool the machine into making you swipe but since that essentially requires us to bypass one of the major security features on the card, we're pretty much forbidden from doing so.

Usually they should be able to get an imprint, it's just much much more time consuming.

    Which is it?

Either there is "no way", or "there is a way".

    You're not making any sense.

Re: Canadian Tire won't let me use my Canadian Tire Mastercard

I work at a CT and first of, we have absolutely NOTHING to do with the Canadian Tire Mastercards. It is literally just a credit card with our name slapped on it. We have absolutely NO access to your account whatsoever, just like with other cards. If your card requires a pin to be inserted, and the machine is set up to take a chip card, you HAVE to put in your pin. The cashier was wrong in saying that it would work for her to swipe it. If you have a chip and you swipe the card, it will just tell you over and over again to insert the chip, because it recognizes that it has a chip. The only way that you can swipe your card and it will go through like that, is if the machine is NOT set up to read the chips. So that is in no way the cashiers fault, or the stores fault. If your chip didn't work like you said it didn't, then you obviously can't use it when the chip is required.
