Seems to be a pattern: not reasonable quantities, not a public notice, not any rain checks:

Stuart M.: I got a great idea for you guys... why don't you start stocking the goods you advertise in your flyers? My friends and I are sick of seeing something we like and when we get to the nearest store, there is no stock. Even when we have an employee look to see where there is a store with stock. Some of us have been told after driving across town that the computer was wrong. And then because you print the ad with "no rain checks" you figure that is good business??? Bogus

Stuart M.: Often times stuff that is advertised in fliers is unavailable in certain stores. Why would any corporation stock certain items in one or two stores and not all the rest. Where's the convenience of having a store near you if you have to travel three cities to find what you are looking for. Have you seen the price of gas?
As for contacting Canadian Tire customer service. It would be nice to know who I should bring my concerns to.

But here's the good news: even when Crappy Tire breaks the law about 'bait and switch', smart consumers can still use the bogus ad ... to get the sale price at a retailer that doesn't suck!

Bren I.B.: this is why i dont go to canadian tire, even the computer says they have n when u get there ysol! there is alot of other stores that carry same products, its too bad that home depot home hardware n walkmart is the place to go when u see something in canadian tire

This lady seems more concerned about Crappy Tire's welfare. What she doesn't realize is, they tricked here into visiting 5 of their crappy stores, where she might have been enticed into buying something! That's why 'bait and switch' is illegal!

Sandra M.: Canadian Tire Customer Service - retail 101 - when you have a customer in your store - SELL THEM SOMETHING - I ran into the exact same issues as outlined by Stuart when I wanted to spend my money with you for a BBQ....to reply with 'contact our customer service' is a total waste of my time - will customer service have the BBQ that 5 other stores said they had before I drove to each one - I dont think so - your competition is eating your lunch with having sale items in stock and helpful, friendly staff.

Another person with the same experience. The common denominator: A Crappy Tires store - huh!

Roop A.: I agree....u guys are always "out of stock" even the morning of your "sales"....on the other hand walmarr has very similar gear that's cheaper

Gini W.: OMG!!! I HATE CANADIAN TIRE!!!!
A flyer which came out yesterday announcing a sale which started TODAY had an above ground pool advertised. I went to our local CT store to inquire about it. They said they didn't have any. Then the girl gave me some song and dance about the fact that it was a national flyer and that not all the items in the flyer might be available at all the stores. Also she said it was hot and so probably all the pools got bought right away (how can that be if they only just came on sale?). Finally she said it was late in the season (mid July??) and they likely wouldn't be getting any more stock in. I asked for a rain check and was told that, because pools are seasonal items they can't give rain checks. I gave her my phone number and asked CT to call me if they should get any in. So I went to another Canadian Tire store and asked if they had this particular pool. They did not. The girl there was very helpful and upon my request she called every other CT store in the Victoria area but none of them had these pools. She even called the store in Duncan but none there either. When she called the Langford store (the one I had first visited) they told her that they discovered (after I'd been there) that they DID have a pool but someone had just bought it!!! ARRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!
Sorry I just had to vent. Anyone else have similar Canadian Tire experiences? Especially with products that are in their flyers but not in their stores.

Gini W.: well they wouldn't issue a rain check for the pool - they said it was because it was a seasonal item!!

Dave S.: I too get frustrated with advertised items in flyers not being available at my Clayton Park Canadian Tire store. I understand they estimate requirements months in advance of delivery. Sale items, particularly the more expensive, can only be shared and distributed as allotment allows. Most times, the store personnel will issue a rain check. I am sure store managers are trying to train staff not to take the issues personally while staff try to be calm and patient to be sincere and help the customer. The computer system is great and they can check in seconds what inventory is at what stores. The website allows us to check on availability at our store and several in the area.. Great job Canadian Tire.

It's supposed to be OK to have 'unreasonably' small quantities on sale day, as long as they provide a 'rain check':

Guy C.: Had a rain check for an item good for 30 days, go in after 15 days to see if the item is there which it is. Still waiting for a call, it is after 30 days now and no call. This is so they don't have to honour the rain check. Common practice, good representation for a company. Still waiting for a call. What a joke!!

Here, too:

Trevor M.: ... recently I tried to buy a work light on the first day of its sale and it wasn't in stock( no big deal it happens) so I got a rain heck. The problem is that it's now been 4 weeks and its still not here. Asked at the store whats going on and they said it could be another 2-6 weeks and they have no idea when it might show up. They told me to keep checking. If its not going to be here why put it on sale?

Another Bait and Switch report, this time from Miramichi:

Jeanne S.: not a big fan of Canadian Tire either. I don't know if they are under staff but in Miramichi NB you can never get any service. Also when there is a sale you can never have what is on the flyer. Do they only order 2 of each item ??? how can you run out of sale item on the day the sale start... Come on..... Raincheck they say..... well yea ok I'll take one but wil I have to wait 10 years to have them call me to tell me they now have it on stock or do they put your phone number in the garbage after you turn your back to them.

Anyone need bait? How about using .... spam!

Nick F.: The only bait I ever had from Canadian tire was switch and bait. My local store has almost none of the products in the flyer

Another flyer, another apparent bait-and-switch:

Troy F.: went to can tire today to buy mig wire out of flyer 60% off but they forgot to tell people stores only have 4 packs (learned from store employee) pretty ticked off after driving 27 km wasn't just one store neither Courtenay and Campbell river why even put on sale 4 other people in store left upset looking for same item

Mike M.: I am very dissatisfied and frustrated with CT, especially when things go on special and they only order 4 at a time. Then when the item finally comes in when I check the website for availability, I go to the store and ask for that item, they basically tell me to come back later as the store hasn't unpacked them yet. I waste my time and money going from one store to another and they all do it to me.

Gayle J.: The Canadian Tire close to my house NEVER has anything that is advertised in the flyer and I mean NEVER....even if you are at the store at 9 am on the Friday the sale starts. They also lack customer service, you line up for ten minutes only to have someone open another cash but they don't bother to come and get the next person in line. You wait for all this time and the person and the end of the line who has only been there for a minute or so goes ahead to the other cash. I have called the manager from the parking lot,I was so mad, but it has happened again. Now I go out of my way to a store about 10 km away from my house so I don't get stressed out.

From https://www.canadiantiresucks.net/c...c/972-bogus-scratch-win-event.html#post10796:

I live in Gibsons, about 10 miles from the CTC store.I saw in the new flyer an item on sale that I needed for some time now to finish a kitchen project.NEW KITCHEN FAUCETS.So I take myself to the store and flyer in hand make my way to the section where the items are displayed.I found the said item and it was out of reach.I wait and I wait and then go looking for a sales person. To no avail.they all seem disinterested and overworked. Finally an older female comes along on her way to the back room and I asked her if she could get the item down from a very high shelf. She says in a condescending tone..."there might be one down already"...and then just walked away into the warehouse section.I wait and I wait somemore for her to return but she didn't.Then a nice young guy comesalong,a stock boy,and iasked him the same thing and he rushed around and found a ladder and was about to pull the item down when a supervisor guy came along with a little hand held stock computer and he stopped and was watching the kid and I told him what was up and if that was the item on sale listed in the flyer. He punched in the numbers on his little computer and told me no that was not the same item.Although it looked identicle but the SKU numbers were different. He said nope not the same ,we don't have that item and never did carry it.I asked well where is it?At a different store or what?He said he didn't know but possibly it was at a different store. My frustration came to a head and walked out.I wonder if they advertise that item knowing full well they don't carry it

Lots of complaints on their own Facebook page, about inadequate stock for their widely-advertised "Red Friday" and "Black Friday" sales.

Cheryl G.P.: I also went to a CTC this evening for the Black Friday sale. I was there before 6 pm. An employee came by at 6 and said that the maagert told her he had stacked the item in an aisle and they must all be gone....all before the 6 pm sale even started. Mgr. could not come out and tell us anything, send the sacrifical lamb so to speak instead.....not many in stock for the sale apparently if they were stacked at the end of an aisle in the aisle....none to be seen in anyones carts either. So dissapointed. Never enough stock when CTC has one of these "great" sales....

Joanne S.: I went into get one of their great Black Friday specials and behold they were sold out. Ok no problem not surprised but I noticed they did have the product I wanted on the counter at the return desk so inquired was told yes it had been returned but it wasn't processed yet so she couldn't sell it to me! Ya right cause she wanted it for herself! Great customer service! NOT!!
