Stupid customers! Don't they know they are expected to settle for Crappy toolboxes! How dare they keep tyring to bring this crap back! After all, the stores don't want these hot potatoes, either!

Sharon H.: Very unhappy with my purchase of the Mastercraft Maximum Rolling Cart Tool Box.I bought the first one in December, used it three times, the lips that the clamps close on to broke on both sides. Exchanged it for a new one, which was great. Took it out of the box Thursday as I was packing it to go away Friday. Tried to close it, lip on one side broke off. Used to have a Stanley Fat Max and never had any problems but had to change as I couldn't lift the fully loaded Fat Max anymore, and needed tool boxes that could separate.

Ben C.: Just wondering why old products did not demand the receipt for warranty coverage yet the newer ones do, given that I'm talking lifetime coverage here I can guarantee the receipts that I've kept will not be readable by then, indeed some have faded already since heat sensitive paper doesn't last. Surely a lifetime coverage on a Mastercraft product which is therefore only sold in Canadian Tire should mean lifetime, the proof of purchase is the Mastercraft logo on each and every item. Just wondering since I know other lifetime coverage tool makers don't require the receipts and I've been concerned about the quality of Mastercraft tools since the rebrand as the quality has certainly gone done on a number of items.

Re: Canadian Tire Sucks at: Tools (Repair Only, Warranty not honoured, No Refund or Exchange)

Nikki R.T.: Hi there. I recently began an apprenticeship as an auto body technician with the City of Edmonton. Last week on June 30 I purchased product number 058-9275-6 a 201 piece socket set. It was my first set of tools and upon opening the package I have already discovered 4 major defects including a bent wrench, double pieces filling in for missing pieces in 2 separate instances and a bent 10 mm wrench. When I bought the product it was the last box of its kind (coming with wrenches) and there were other sets with the exact same product number that came with no wrenches. Obviously I bought the box with the wrenches, unfortunately now that I need to exchange this defective product the original set I bought is obviously no longer available as the product number now includes no wrenches. As a new apprentice I am very very disappointed that my first set of tools from what I thought was a reputable tool maker has so many problems. Not only that but now exchanging it has become a problem in itself as I do not want to lose out on the wrenches that came with my set (even though one came bent out of the box). The girl I spoke with at Kingsway location customer service said they could possibly exchange it for product number 0589235, the 230 piece set that does come with wrenches, however this set will not work for me as it comes in a case and not with the required trays to lay in my tool box. Mastercraft came highly recommended as good tools for beginning a trade so I never dreamed I would have this many problems and this big of a headache at the beginning of my new career. I ask that someone in management please review my situation and get back to me at the earliest convenience with how we can solve this problem and why I should continue to use your products through the rest of my career.

    Thank you kindly,
    Nikki R.T.

Comment at Canadian Tire Corp banking on digital commerce for future growth, incoming CEO says | Financial Post

    Tom:

How about CT goes back to the quality of its tooling from around 25-15 years ago? How can you tell a tool is really bad - it is made in the new light blue colour scheme. The older stuff used dark blue and was OK - cheap but OK. New stuff is more expensive and weaker. Just look at an angle grinder - everything in our world moves towards bigger and cheaper - except CT latest light blue angle grinder - it went up in price and is now a whole 1AMP weaker.

Also a novel idea would be to respect company's warranty policies and having A class customer service - try to bring stuff marked MasterCraft to CT - even one with lifetime warranty - they pretend its not theirs. When I go to princess auto if it has PowerFist on it they don't pretend I could have gotten it somewhere else.

In short quality at CT went way down and prices went up - I guess I still go and buy motor oil there but that is about it... and I own a used 1990s electric chains saw - MC - that thing is great... but that is "old" MC product.

Rob P.: I purchased your "Titainium" drill bit kit and they do not stand up to drilling into mild steel. My HSS drill bits are a lot better. Yours only last for 1 or two holes then they are dull and need to be resharpened. And yes I am using the correct drill speeds etc. I have been at this for 50 years and will not buy those again. Maybe good for drilling wood.

Gordon C.P.: funny thing. your always sorry but there is nothing done about it more research needs to be put into your cordless power tool line. or the batteries. I have a 18v cordless drill home can't use it because the battery dies in no time.

Re: Canadian Tire Sucks at: Tools (Repair Only, Warranty not honoured, No Refund or Exchange)

Something to consider, when buying gifts this year:

Nancy H.S.: .... imagine my shock when I went in to replace a battery for our cordless drill and was told that it is $99.99 and never been on sale. My husband passed away shortly after he purchased this (he purchased it in 2011 and passed in 2012) and he only used it a few times but the battery won't hold a charge. I don't have the original bill either. I need a Maximum Li-Ion battery or I guess I will just have to throw the drill away. This is really an awful waste, but as a widow on a fixed income, I cannot afford that battery. It is too bad they can't be refurbished. Maybe another company will have a drill that does have batteries that go on sale. This is a company policy .... I would advise not buying the Mastercraft Maximum drills, unless you get 2 batteries with it.
