Thumbs down Careful when buying online only stuff

    All about a Champion Generator

I tried two 3100W Generators that i bought from Costco, they didn't power my Bosch Mitre saw properly. One of them actually stalled. Since the 3400W is only sold by CT its the only game in town there wasn't much choice. So why did i say Careful? This is an ONLINE purchase only. Be prepared to lose at least $5000.00 on your credit line for a while. Here's what Canadian Tire online does. They secure the $1483.99 with your credit card company. Depending on the credit card company it can be held between 3-7 days. Its not posted its just held. They are making sure you have the money when it arrives. They don't know how long your credit card company will allow them to hold the money so they do this every 3 days. My company allows 4 working days, then it falls off. By that time another one comes up. I didn't know this until my credit card company phoned me. They were wondering if i had intensions of buying 3 generators. 21, 24 and the 27th they said CT was holding $1483.99 which was $4451.97 in total. That sum came straight off of my credit line. Don't get confused with actual money and credit here. They are dipping into your credit line, not taking Money yet. On the website it say 8-12 days shipping. Do the math, could get scary if you were in need of that credit line. I don't know what would happen if you didn't have enough. CT store manager phoned them to find out what i was talking about. All she could do was shake her head. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. At the end i was asked if i wanted to cancel, and i said it wouldn't help. I had a short conversation with customer service online prior to going to the store, and asked them to phone my credit company and have them release those holds and they flatly refused. They told me that it would have to wait till it ran out, which is 4 business days for each hold. Which means it wouldn't have benefited me to cancel, my credit limit still wouldn't change till the time ran out. I got the Generator in 7 working days. I'll never order CT online again. When the store orders for you this doesn't happen. But they can't order Online only stuff. I tried posting this on CT website, so far it seems they disallowed it.
