Bought a Nautilus Deep cycle battery 3 months ago from Merritt store. Used it once on a electric boat motor put it on a motomaster trickle charger, went to use it again and it never charged. Tried ...a different charger to make sure it wasn`t the charger. Still no voltage. Took it to back and they said one or all of the cells were bone dry, they filled it with water and left it to charge over night. Came back next morning and they put it on the battery tester and it boiled over, service manager said it was defective. Wanted a refund instead of another piece of crap. Went back the next morning to talk to the store manager asked him for a refund? NO store credit? NO ok just give me my replacement battery NO (12 months replacement warranty) Store manager said it was customers responsability to check fluid levels, (its a brand new battery?!?!) I said is it not your responsability to check the levels before you sell it to a customer) Called head office in toronto to investigate. Called the Kelowna store and talked to the service manager there. Explained the situation exactly and he said no problem bring the battery in and we will replace it. He said I don`t see what the big deal is. Electical Technician from head office calls me back after arguing with him for half an hour I said you do know they said one or all of the cells were dry they filled it, charged it and tested it the next day and it boiled over. He said oh that sounds like a defective cell to me. He calls the store owner at merritt store and it so happens the Exide representative was there that same day, which I never seen him and the store owner never mentioned anything about him. The rep said it is not under warranty. Called Exide Canada Ltd they tell me Canadian Tire handles thier own warranties, left number with relations. Called Canadian Tire head office again and have now escaladed the file. They would rather save the amount he paid for the battery before mark up instead of keeping a customer and possibly more. I will never enter a canadian tire store again. I`v talked to mechanics, other automotive stores, and even a different canadian tire store and they all agree, battery was defective before I bought it. 12 month replacement warranty :realmad: I will not stop until they live up to the warranty!!!

So I got another call after I escelatd the complaint, guy calls me up and tells me that I can buy a replacement battery anywhere I want send them a copy of the documentation and they will re emburse me up to the cost of what I paid for the battery. I can`t just replace the freakin battery at the canadian tire store in merritt where I bought the thing. Told him to send it to me in writing. Still not happy all this over a 12 month replacement warranty, and the point of the warranty is?

Funny thing is, shorty after I received the letter from the head office I was heading out to kamloops and they replaced the battery at that store. The battery I bought from Canadian Tire in Merritt was manufactured in 2007, I should have said give me something newer. The battery they gave me as a replacement at the Kamloops store was manufactured in 2009, I told them to pop the caps off and check the levels before I took it. Everyother store will replace but the Merritt store, what a load of crap!!!

That's C-tire for you. Will make your life hell before helping you out.
I'm glad this site is up and running! Finally somewhere to complain and people will listen!!

Who bought the battery? Who used it once on an electric boat? Who tried a different charger? Who took it back? Who came back next morning? Who wanted a refund? Who called head office? Who called the Kelowna store? Who called Exide? Who called CT head office again?

Ever heard of placing a pronoun at the beginning of your sentences?

What, does it say on the back of the receipt that in order to not get jerked around as a customer you need to make proper use of pronouns?

Never mind, it's probably somewhere in the fine print...

Ok, for starters the entire Nautilus series of batteries is sealed and cant be filled. Second, if it was fillable i highley doubt they would fill it with water when they have battery acid available at there fill station. I think this story may be a tad exaggerated.

Im sorry but i dont see a problem with a replacment warranty. Thats what a warranty is, otherwise its a refund. And as at ANY retailer once an item is used it is non returnable and at that point defaults to the warranty.

It's true we have a clause in the fine print thats states when ignorant pricks open there mouths we stop helping them and usually attempt to point out how retarted they are.

That's pretty funny as I'm sure you may know that the battery boiled over due to the fact that they filled it with water. I am an electrician and I can tell you that if you are going to fill a battery with water it must be distilled water due to the fact that it has a low PH level and and properly conduct with the acidity level. Using normal water you might as well just short it out and throw it in the garbage. Canadian tires fault clearly they didn't know what they were doing!!

Distilled water doesn't have a low pH, it has a neutral pH, 7. Damn, you might want to watch what wire you hold onto.

'there' mouths or 'their' mouths.....?

The bad grammar and spelling are just the low-hanging fruit. The real fun is in mocking the arrogant justification for treating a customer so poorly.

Just another example of the type of people you are dealing with at Crappy Tire - another fine reason to take your business somewhere else. Assuming you needed another reason.

I am always amazed reading random forums as there are always trolls lurking to make a post that really has nothing to do with the forum... reminds me that some people need to pull someone under to keep themselves from drowning in their miserable little holes

BTW - since you like to pick on grammar so much - that would be RETARDED with a 'D' Einstein. (oh ya and it should be 'their' mouth not 'there' mouth too dipshit) .

Still feeling SMRT?
