Re: Stupid return policy to hide employee theft?

Don't forget to add that it's $771 Million CASH MONEY!

So for all of you jackasses claiming CT is going downhill, suck on that!! Struggling companies typically don't have 3/4 of a billion dollars to throw around.

So now if you're looking for sporting goods in Canada, guess who you're shopping with ahhahahahha
Tell the folks at Walmart sporting dept. we say hello. Enjoy your $39.99 hockey skates and $59.99 golf sets because unless you're shopping CT or one of CT's newest divisions, that's about all you have access too

Not that this has anything to do with CT's Stupid Return Polices, but ...

I found it VERY amusing and enlightening to see the comments that reader at the news site about this story.

It really gives the customers a voice - the fact that they were so quick to jump on CT and complain about how much the store sucks, especially poor staff and lousy products.

Hmm .. maybe it IS related to Stupid Return Policies, after all!

Here are some samples, along with the votes. Oldest first (newer one's don't have as many votes, yet).

I hope they don't downgrade the help
I'd hate to see the usually competent National Sports staff replaced by the typical Crappy Tire staff who don't know a snow shovel from a hockey stick.

    Agree 24|Disagree 1

    CTC
I hope they also don't downgrade product quality!

    Agree 14|Disagree 1

    get ready
for prices to go through the roof, CT is overpriced on everything they sell.

    Agree 15|Disagree 5

    Hope they don't get it,,,
the customer service at Sportchek, etc. is really great. The customer service at Can Tire and Marks is considerable worse. It would be the death knell of a great affordable sporting goods store. Of course that has never stopped Can Tire before.

    Agree 7|Disagree 5

Too bad,, another sports store down the drain,,,
In two years CT can sell it to an American conglomorate for half of what they paid. CTC has no authority on any level and most assuradly not in automotive goods. That's why they spun off Parts source so they could get out of automotive goods. What they have left is chinese garbage. Coming soon to a sportchek near you. And the Forzani family retires.

"I'd hate to see the usually competent National Sports staff replaced by the typical Crappy Tire staff who don't know a snow shovel from a hockey stick" --- Doesn't matter if you buy either from CT as they will both break when they encounter ice.

Another jealous armchair millionaire dreaming of what it's like to be successful. Make no mistake, we fart money because we're that good at business. It must really piss you off that we're getting so big that you just can't avoid giving us more money lol. We're getting closer to having it all lol.

LOL Yah those comments copied in here are great references to draw from.

Canadian Tire spun off Partsource? umm wrong. In fact we've grown PS, and went from franchise to Corporate owned stores for the most part.

RE: Product quality they clearly don't understand the market. SportChek drives the high end sporting goods market. High end skates, bicycles, fitness equipment etc.... CT plays in the entry level and every day purchaser market of same goods. Read the CEO statement about it, spells it out perfectly.

a death knell ? lol yah we destroyed Marks hahaha

What a gong show. Just a bunch of yappy asses with no real understanding of business or the market.

Maybe now we'll make the Top 20 retailers list that you have never been able to produce lol LOSERS

still making millions baby. money ...in....the....bank!

Another fine opportunity for 'The Tire' to hear the voices of average Canadian consumers, voluntariily and spontaneously posted on the web site of Canada's highest-circulation newspaper.

And then voted on by other Canadians.

We've now seen CT's response to those Canadian voices.

    Pathetic, CT.

    Simply pathetic.

looky looky Sears is losing money again...And we're still making money. I'm checking my bank account online again. Yep it's gone up by a few thousand already. How's your day so far? I'm still in my housecoat and having a late breakfast. Maybe I'll have a swim in my pool before I drive by my store to look at the full parking lot. You lose loser lol.

    Another new excuse:

    https://www.canadiantiresucks.net/ca....html#post4031

The list was also missing the one about "you didnt' buy it at this store".

The list of excuses Canadian Tire might use to refuse a legitimate return is now:

    - The store no longer carries that item.
    - It is a "repair only" item.
    - The item wasn't sold by this store.
    - This item can only be returned in the first 30 days (or 14 days, or not at all).
    - The package was opened (even though it was the store that first opened it, 30 seconds ago).
    - The store thinks the item was used.
    - The store thinks the item was stolen.
    - It was a seasonal item.
    - It was a Christmas tree, ornament or lighting.
    - The customer refused to provide ID.
    - The customer refused to let the store record all the personal and/or financial information on their ID (which is contrary to privacy laws).
    - The picture on the ID didn't look enough like the customer.
    - The item wasn't defective when the store sold it; the customer must have damaged it.
    - The store sold a defective item, but that's not the store's problem (even though this is illegal in some provinces).
    - The item had a 'lifetime' warranty, but the warranty is no longer being honoured.
    - The store's records show that the customer has returned too many items in the past.
    - The store thinks the customer was rude or impatient with store staff.
    - A corner of the unopened packaging was damp.
    - The item wasn't purchased at that particular store.
    - The store has decided to exercise its right to refuse the return, and they don't need to give a reason

Re: Stupid return policy to hide employee theft?

If a cashier skims his/her till, they HAVE TO pay it back, from $5 to $1000. If their till is out a thousand dollars, s/he is suspended for a month without pay or fired depending on the decision by the store owner. Maybe not all cash offices run as efficiently as they should, but customers are not being cheated out of their CT money.
Reminder, if you pay with a credit card, that isn't a CT credit card, you don't receive CT money for the transaction. Some of the accusations that ALL CT cashiers are actually con-artists that compete with one another to steal CT money, actually makes me laugh. Stealing CT money? So we can do what, shop at Canadian Tire with our CT nickels? Genius.

Not even sure what that says, but it is illegal to make a cashier pay for cash outages. Fire them for not being able to balance, that's a different story.
