CTC used to say it's warranty on tools is "forever" but forever now has a time limit or at least it requires a receipt. No more replacements without a receipt. Now who keep receipts for their tools for years??? Are they mental?

You'd think the fact you present them a broken part would be enough to prove ownership. If they think all of their customers come in with broken tools have stollen them what does that say about how they view their customers.

Home Depot will replace any tool from CTC for free in the hopes of getting your repeat business. It works. At least it did for me.

I have a hard time believing that Home Depot would do that...anyone else have this happen? If so, then thumbs up to Home Depot.

Home Depot used to have a big sign over the entrance to their tools isle stating "Bring in your broken tools and we'll replace them". I took in a broken ratchet. Home Depot gave me a new one. Wanna see a picture of it..?? The sign is gone now and in reality I've not tried it since. I honestly have no idea if they still do it... I'd ask though to see.

BUT...

Not two weeks ago I did the brakes on my car. Not touched for 5 years some of the bolts were seized and in the process of removing a bolt in the back of the caliber I broke a socket. In this case it was from Princess Auto. I took it back when I went in to buy some other items and asked if they had a broken tool warranty? I handed them the socket and the guy walked over the rack, picked off a new one handed it to me and gave me a slip for the checkout. Free... no receipt, no muss, no fuss... isn't that the way it should be?

I wish they still do, I have a Firestorm drill that doesn't work anymore, and can't get batteries for them. Would love to trade it in for a new one. By the way. I'll put one plug FOR Canadian Tire today. I went to exchange some "lifetime warranty" hatch supports today, and no muss no fuss I got new ones :) Of course it was a different location Canadian tire. Maybe it was just that other store. Anyway, I'm satisfied for now.

Oh.. maybe I should be more specific. Home Depot would replace hand tools like socket sets and wrenches with their own brand Husky. Along with their sign over the tool isle they had a bin of broken items in this category. They don't do the type of tools your suggesting.
