I came across this little article on www.allbusiness.com and thought I'd post it even though it's dated 4 1/2 years ago.
They probably still do stuff like this. It's only a matter of time before they get caught again. For something.

Canadian Tire to Pay Fine for Violation of ODS Regulations.
Publication: Ozone Depletion Today
Date: Wednesday, December 17 2003
Environment Canada recently announced that Canadian Tire Corporation has been sentenced in the Ontario Court of Justice on three counts of violating the ozone depleting substances (ODS) regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act of 1999.
According to Environment Canada, an investigation by the regulatory agency's Environmental Protection Branch of the Ontario Regional Office revealed that Canadian Tire illegally imported bar refrigerators containing the ozone depleting gas dichlorofluoromethane.
The regulatory agency noted that the company is now required to pay a penalty of $25,000, which will be directed to the Canadian Dermatological Association for public education and awareness of skin cancer and related health concerns linked to the thinning of the ozone layer.
