Free Speech? What's the deal?

The front page of this site has this noble quotation of the Canadian right to Free speech. Incidentally there is a grammar error right in the body of that post - free speech indeed.
What struck me though (more than the poor grammar), is that after reading the quotation and deciding to make a post I had to "read and accept" the following limitations on the said free speech. Interesting that a site that claims to be built on the concept of free speech requires acceptance of a number of limitations of that same free speech just to join. Here, for clarity, are the limitations on your free speech imposed by this site:

Please DO NOT post anything PORNOGRAPHIC, EXCESSIVELY VIOLENT, ILLEGAL, ABUSIVE or HATEFUL.


Please post in the CORRECT forum.


All posts must be written in English.


No Harassment: Do not harass any other user posting messages to the forum. The determination of what constitutes harassment is at the sole discretion of canadiantiresucks.net web site staff.


Don't spam/abuse any other member via e-mail, Private Messages or posting.

In other words, do not make up lies to defame anyone or anything. This is against the law. If you can not back up what you're saying don't make the statement.

Lot's of people try to rationalise limitations on free speech, otherwise how would it be allowed to happen? The fact is, applying rules that limit the very freedom of speech you say you are a champion of makes you a big-time hypocrite. Your comments like "This protects everyone" and "this makes the site easier for everyone" are generalisations that clearly have exceptions and do infringe on free-speech. It's not the limitations I have the issue with, mind you, it's the hypocrisy.

Either get rid of the free-speech bull-crap, or get rid of the rules.

Just don't say exercise your right to free speech then impose limits on how we are allowed to do it.

The limits are imposed by the government and probably his/her host server as controversial as they may be. Most host servers do not allow things like pornography and warez and such.
He/she is saying, say what you want as long as you follow the LAWS set out before us.

Those things just make sense to keep things orderly. If these rules aren't in place, if things were actually happening on this site, things would be chaotic and no one would be able to follow anything. Would you rather have One single forum where everything is mixed and no one can find anything specific? If you do, maybe you should start your own forum and have a free for all. See how chaotic it gets. ALL forums that I have ever been on have those rules. Go ahead, check out some other forums.

All these people complain about how petty it is to complain about a corporation, but in my opinion, it is just as if not more petty to complain about some simple rules that make sense.

BTW, if you look real hard, you'll see that it says those ads are paying to support this site. these ads, if you know anything about Google Adsense, are put there by the owner of the site. No other advertising is allowed for obvious reasons. It would violate the Trademark and/or Copyright LAW.

I loved law class. It was one of my favorite subjects during my years of education.
I was also very good at philosophy. I could argue all day about moot points. that's all I do on a daily basis.

I'm not sure how screaming obscenities is analogous not posting "in the correct forum", maybe you can help me out with that one.

But in that case, if I posted obscenities in portuguese or farsi, would it be double bad? You know, not in the correct language but also obscence? Whew!

Then, what if I double-posted those same obscenities! That would be bordering on criminal!

Awe...... did someone have a temper tantrum. Nice to see when all else fails you simply directly insult people. I didn't relize freedom of speech didn't apply to this website.
