Pointe West Golf Sucks

Guest
I would like to warn the public, so that anyone who might golf and/or eat the food at Pointe West Golf Course Amherstburg Ontario Canada. DO NOT EAT THE FOOD THERE!! They have a BIG RAT problem, have no plans to clean it up and are putting their customers health at risk. The problem started from opening day mid April 2008. The head chef(Beatrice D) knows about it. The rats get in to the food every night leaving droppings everywhere. My girlfriend worked there for over a month coming home in disgust at what the rats got in to each night and left behind. A few times the rats got in to all the Doritos, bread and muffins, chewing open the bags leaving dropping on the counters. It is generally assumed by the Pointe west employees the rats are nesting under the food shack. Their kitchen cleanliness is way below average as well, no hairnets, gloves, same utensils use for many food items

Some of the diseases they carry or cause include:
Rickettsial pox a disease similar to chicken pox and is spread to people by mites that are usually found on mice.

Rat bite fever is spread to people when they are bitten by an infected mouse, rat or rodent.

Food poisoning (namely salmonellosis) is spread to people when food, food preparation surfaces or dishes are contaminated by saliva, urine or feces from a mouse or rat.

Mice and rats can spread parasites to people such as trichinosis and tapeworms.

Hantavirus is a respiratory disease that is carried by small rodents, especially deer mice. It is spread to people when they breathe in dust that contains the rodents infected saliva, urine or feces. Although uncommon, people can also get hantavirus if they are bitten by an infected mouse.

Plague is spread to people when they come in contact with fleas from infected rodents or when people are bitten by infected rodents. However, today plague is usually spread to people by rodents like prairie dogs and squirrels.
I hope someone finds this information useful.

I would think the local health inspector would find this info useful. Maybe you (guest) should direct this their way? The local newspapaer might find it interesting too.

Wow I am glad I know about this now. I was about to play out there this spring. I am getting a gift card to one of the pro golf schools here in the states. Thanks Cheers! Happy Holidays

Strange that Pointe West has a 5 out of 5 rating by the Board of Health. Are you a disgruntled ex-employee? You should maybe only post accurate information!

That's fantastic that health canada would do that. However, this rat lives under the terrace on the turn. It comes out at night and only when it thinks there's no one around that can harm it. If there's commotion, it's going to be hiding of course, or just out in the woods somewhere for the day. This rat HAS been seen by NUMEROUS employees. Unfortunately, because most of the employees change from season to season, it's hard to get a hold of one who's actually seen it. I can tell you from personal experience, the rat is real and it lives there. It was never stated that the rat gets into the actual building. Just the terrace shack. That shack is atrocious. When they clean up the rat droppings, they just wipe down the counters with a wet cloth. They DON'T STERILIZE! They make your sandwiches right on the counter!

It is strongly advised, NOT to eat anything prepared in the terrace on the turn shack! That is all.

And, just because health canada says everything's ok, doesn't mean everything is ok. I have worked in restaurants for many years and i know what happens the day the inspector comes. Everyone scrambles to make sure everything is perfect and to the standard of the health board. They all do things the proper way and don't cut any corners as long as that official is there. As soon as the audit is over, it's business as usual. They can go back to cutting whatever corners they want, ie. reusing a knife for multiple things without cleaning it in between, not cleaning the slicer, etc. I've seen how it works; every kitchen does it. If you think otherwise, you're just fooling yourself.

Non-factual.

After the rat gets into the Doritoes, does it re-seal the bag? Cause that would be cause for alarm.

Nobody cares about the opinion of someone who was fired from their job of flipping burgers and making sandwiches. You're making a fool out of yourself by talking trash about a beautiful golf course.People golf there all day everyday, obviously none of them have seen your rat. As for cleanliness, a facility such as a private golf course has high standards and that's probably why you no longer work there. Your posting shows you have no class.

I worked as a server at the turn for a number of years. If the closing staff did their job correctly everything should be removed or locked in the fridge. Nothing is left out over night in the cabinets or on counters. Know how the place operated before you run yelling RATS....

Anybody who is so naive as to think there is not a rat problem with anything containing food in a building near the water is engaging in wishful thinking.

It must be the owners who are posting repeatedly and denigrating the credibility of the person who very kindly posted the warning.

I lived in Amherstburg many years ago and the whole area in which I lived was plagued with mice. Rats are notorious for living near the water. If there's food or garbage - all the better.

The only good thing that can be said of this rat is that it chose wisely - a slick looking golf club with an owner who refuses to recognize his/her duties and obligations and will demean an employee whose seen the truth from the inside.

As for Health Canada - gee I wonder how BSE got into Canada? Could not have happened here. Health Canada and the Canada Food Inspection Agency are infallible and not remotely willfully ignoring what may be there to see with a minimum of effort. Or maybe there are benefits to not seeing what may need to be seen.

So thank you to the person who issued the warning. You are both conscientious and ethical and deserve to be applauded rather than demeaned.

I do believe you may have experienced rat problems, living by the water, and I'm sorry to hear that. However, I am a proud employee of Point West Golf club, posting this in my spare time because I hate to see such terrible things being said about a place I have enjoyed working at for many years. There are NO RATS people. Yes Amherstburg is located on the water, however there is no rat problem because this is a business, and a lot of money and precautions go into eliminating the threat of pests that would normally try to infiltrate properties close to the water. They are well aware of the threat, and as I said put time and money towards keeping pests away. I have never seen a rat at the Terrace, nor anywhere else in the building. I do see Health inspectors and pest control inspectors making their rounds several times a season. This is the work of a disgruntled employee with bad intentions and false accusations. Come and see for yourself if the club is clean and well kept, thats really all I can say. Websites like this one exist so that people can communicate REAL problems and health concerns. Its unfortunate that it can also be taken advantage of like this. If you are not sure, come and see for yourself. Remember that ANYONE can anonymously post ANYTHING on this site.

Just because you've worked there for many years now does not make you an expert on RAT behavior. I ALSO know for a FACT, that yes, when things like BREAD are left out overnight by accident, and chips are left out overnight by accident, it's fair game feeding time for this/these RATS! Upon opening of the TURN one morning, the young SUPERVISOR at the time (who shall remain nameless at this time), had cleaned up lots and lots of RAT DROPPINGS and bread that had been "attacked" for lack of a better term. She did NOT sterilize the counters/sinks/racks/etc. after this had happened. I ALSO know that RATS, don't like to be around people if they can avoid it and this is why they come out to eat at night.

I KNOW there is/was a RAT living at the Terrace. I assume there have been NO RATS in the main building. There has been NO evidence of RATS anywhere but the Terrace.

GEE, this must really be affecting business if Pointe West has to send their trolls on here to get business back.

Of course there are going to be RATS and other animals/pests on the Pointe West Golf Course and surrounding property. It's a wooded area near lots of water and there is plenty of food for them to eat. Especially at the dumpsters. RATS LOVE DUMPSTERS!! AND WOODS!!! AND WATER!!!! You'd have to be delusional to think otherwise. A rat's natural habitat is NOT the city!!!

Just to make things quite clear to anyone reading this far:

FACT: There has/had been a rat living near/under the Terrace on the Turn and feeding inside it.
FACT: There has been NO evidence that I am aware of that there have been ANY rats inside the main building.
FACT: Rats avoid people. They come out when people are not around, hence, at night.
FACT: Rats live by water and are transported by boats/ships. Amherstburg is a shipping import area.
FACT: The Terrace on the Turn had/has broken screens that leave easy access to rodents.
FACT: Rats/rodents that merely walk along on counters/floors still leave behind enough "germs" to make people sick if things are not wiped down and sterilized.

Don't kid yourselves. It's better to be safe than sorry. Get your food from inside or buy pre-packaged foods from the turn.

Enjoy your golfing and beer!

Fact: none of the faker advocates here give one shit about your golf course.

FACT: Angry CT Guy doesn't like consumers who complain. He only like ones who follow the unofficial motto of his beloved store: "Don't Bring It Back".

FACT: Angry CT Guy hasn't posted here in 10 months.
I don't think he's going to respond. I don't think he cares. I think you're so desperate for posts on this pathetic website that you have to copy and paste them from Facebook because this site struggles to generate any interest.

Good to see our old 'friend' Moaner 1 couldn't wait for the end of the quarter to resume posting here - this is gonna be hilarious!

I see they decided not to refute the previous fact - thanks for your concurrence, Moaner!

And I see The Moaner just couldn't resist 'putting words into people's mouths' once more - reminds me of the good old days when they were still posting as Lawguy and CT Me, LOL!

Fact: Nobody said they thought Angry CT Guy was going to respond - nice deception, though.

Fact: Angry CT Guy cared enough that they posted wild speculations about other people.

Fact: Angry CT Guy never called himself "Angry CT Guy" - but thanks for picking up on the satirical name consumers game them, and the Admin decided to assign. LMOA!

Fact: The Moaner is picking up where Angry CT Guy left off, posting wild speculations about the motives of consumers. Way to pick up the baton of the disgraced ACTG, Angry Moaner!

Fact: The Moaner either has not bothered to access data about the interest level (eg., views) on this site, or has that access, and has decided to post lies about it.

Fact: The Moaner is not to be trusted.

BTW, Crappy Tire's REAL slogan is, "Don't Bring it Back".
