Well hears some advice:
did you hear the one about the honest mechanic...
no?
well the same thing goes with any place that services your car... if the mechanics aren't honest then you get shit work
SO you had a problem at a canadian tire auto shop. wellllllll.... Canadian tire doesn't exactly "hire" mechanics they rent space to them. They buy their own tools, order their own parts, use their own judgment. So before you bitch about CT, maybe you should bitch about your mechanic, maybe that will solve the problem. oh and wait don't get me started about the service advisors.... the ones in my store don't even drive (yup I work there)
And yes well it is our responsiblity to have honest mechanics, we are limited to the labour pool which is often just plain lacking.

sooo.... Don't discount canadian tire as a company, just the store you went to for letting shit dumbass liar mechanics use their service bays.

At my store, we DO hire mechanics, so I don't know what you're talking about. They don't rent space. And all of our service advisors drive, and are liscensed mechanics. Maybe your store auto center just sucks more then usual?

I've yet to meet a real mechanic who doesn't have his own tools. I have never heard of any shop anywhere that will provide expensive tools free-of-charge to their mechanics. Also, I used to know a Canadian Tire mechanic (one of the rare honest ones - he now works for himself) and he got his paycheque right from the Canadian Tire store. He wasn't some kind of free agent.

Most mechanics are on the flat rate system , what this means is they get paid for the work they do .
They are CTC employees.
My service center employs service writers that drive and have quite a few years experience in the job.

And I'm sure you have a few who know how to pad the bill too, don't you?

We have four, yes four CT stores within easy driving distance from where I live. Each one is different in how they operate because they are a franchise operation. There are far too many stories of people getting jerked around at CT shops getting car repairs. I had a neighbor who was a front controller and divied jobs up to the mechanics. He was an honest man and refused to have parts replaced which weren't necessary. The manager sacked him for being honest. Actually I had two friends sacked for the same misdemeanor. The other did not work for a CT shop but for a Mazda dealership. So, same story all over. It really pays dividends to shop around with your friends and see who are happy with the service they get. It doesn't matter what the name is on the building but how it's run and what the honesty level is within.

You need to know the mechanic who is working on your car...because they can be dishonest anywhere. The issue is, if they get caught for being dishonist and the store does nothing to help...that's where the problem lies and it happens to often with C-T...

I've worked in ct auto service for years,my present location...with new owners....are terrible
they cut staff....they cut people that knows how to do the base skills....my store here now
has wonderful honest mechanics....honest service advisors.....but thats the thing.... they dont
want HONEST people they want to screw big time!!!

^^ it is so true it all depends on the mechanic and mainly who works on your car..recently they hired a guy to up solded too much stuff which alot of other shop employees felt un needed and management never fired him even with the amount of screw ups he has done......we work hosestly and only want to do work that is need and all other people that work with me want to see his tools and box out the door..he'd always be doing thing's half ass, or never 100% only like 50-75% at most..... As we want to keep our customers happy and only do whats needed or whats recommend service from vehicle manufacturer..And upper management in the store always bugs the hard working employee to do their stuff when they work in the shop so AUTO SERVICE DIFFER FROM STORE TO STORE DEPENDING ON THE PEOPLE THE WORK IN AUTOMOTIVE...if they want to suck your blood or on your wall with out justifing the work needed...i'd say take a look at another canadian tire to get your service done at and somethings do take time
