I don't understand what the issue is?
I find it difficult to believe that you are genuinely unable to understand this simple concept, but let me walk you through it.
Unopened and in original condition.....sounds normal
Excuse me, but where the heck have you been shopping?
This is not at all "normal". If you check other major stores, you will find that most will allow returns on most items, with no mention of "unopened" (with a few, clearly-stated exceptions, such as CD's, DVD's, software, underwear, etc.).
And what about CT itself? Have you checked their site? It says, "in its original condition and packaging". No mention of your so-called "normal" policy about unopened packages.
why do you expect a store to take it back
Well, I assume they expect the store to take it back because:
1) The store's competitors probably will, and;
2) The store's own policy says that they will (unless they have a really good reason not to).
...use the pennywise or Kijii to sell it if you don't like what you bought and used.
This is your best solution? If a store refuses to follow their own return policy, you honestly think that customers should be OK taking on the burden (and loss) for re-selling an item themselves?
Frankly, you seem to be bending over backwards to defend the store.
If Canadian Tire continues to back-peddle on customer service, they shouldn't be surprised if their customer base "votes with their feet", and takes their business to other retailers who have better return policies, and will follow-through on them.
Seriously, most of you need a head check.
Serioulsy, I believe that it is you who needs to:
1 - Give your own misguided head at least one, thorough check.
2 - Do a little basic research before you start posting untrue statements.
3 - Try to see things from the point of view of a customer, rather than a store-owner.
4 - Start shopping somewhere other than Crappy Tire (or sell your CT store, if that's your situation).
