Another tale of woe from yet another now-ex-customer, who made the mistake of trusting the word of a Canadian Tire service center rip-off artist:
Destiny Hodgins After today's repairs to my 2004 Ford Focus at the Prince of Wales drive location in Regina Saskatchewan, I will NEVER again use a Canadian Tire for maintenance or repairs to my car OR shop at ANY Canadian Tire location.
The reason? I was quoted 1015$ to replace the alternator, battery, run the no start diagnostics and do an oil change. After consulting with colleagues I called THREE other repair shops, including the Ford dealership and a NAPA Autopro location. No one quoted me more than 650$ for the entire job. Based on the model and engine of my car, the replacement of the alternator should have taken no more than 2 hours - I was charged for 3 hours. I demanded an explanation and was told I had a dual engine - the quotes I received were WORSE CASE scenario, including battery replacement, belts AND the alternator.
Not a single one was more than 650$ including the oil change, and all stated that with a dual engine the replacement should only take 2 hours and that if it took more than that, I was paying a mechanic to pick his nose for an hour.
Furthermore, my battery was newer - around 2 years old. NONE of the people I asked said I needed a new battery. My old battery was NOT completely dead (my hazards were still working) and it was more than possible for them to recharge my battery and for me to continue to use it. I was told by the service professional who called the mechanic at home, that it was necessary. I called over to Battery Depot and was told that I was lied to. My car battery would have been more than capable of holding a charge.
I paid the price when no one at the store was willing to give an inch and because we are in the middle of a nasty winter storm in Regina and I needed my car.
That said, as a result, I will never service my car at ANY Canadian location again (you have done 2 safeties- one of which included EXTENSIVE repairs, as I moved from province to province, multiple oil changes, replaced a rad hose, and now this work) and myself and my family shop regularly at your store. Large purchases include vacuums, fitness equipment and a lot of various items - not to mention frequenting the garden centre every spring.
Neither myself, nor my family members will shop at Canadian Tire again as a result. As I work for a large corporation myself, I felt it essential that you are aware of the fact that your Prince of Wales location is CHEATING loyal customers out of money.
