Went to Home Depot (Terminal Ave in Vancouver) on a Friday afternoon and waited 15 minutes in the generic "Services" counter behind one other dufus returning a bunch of items so I could ask a simple 5 second question? There's one snooty old lady clerk dealing with this dude on a Friday afternoon! Fifteen minutes of just waiting behind one guy to ask a simple question which I never got around to asking because I got fed up...that's ridiculous.

Yeah, there were other girls behind the "return" counter with their thumbs up their asses because they wouldn't know the term multitasking if it hit them in their sub highschool level educated heads. Some of them could see my blood was beginning to boil but they could care less because it wasn't their job. Not even adequate floor staff walking around that I could intercept without the risk of losing my spot.

I got so pissed off I just intercepted a Home Depot contractor with a safety vest, told him the service was a joke and where there might be another Home Depot only to have this contractor provide me with info. If there were adequate staff, I could have saved myself 15 minutes of standing for nothing.

Unless you're waiting to get into a high end club in New York, or waiting for Stones tickets, no one should have to wait that long to talk to a clerk, agent, or anyone.

CT is a joke, and so is Home Depot. I'd sooner give my business to RONA. At least the service is way better.

Home Depot is a last resort for me and my DIY needs nowadays - not only because of the service, but because they are now in the realms of "big-box" world domination.

I go to TSC (small and friendly) or Rona (bigger and more helpful).

Almost every store has at LEAST one crappy employee. If I were to ditch every store I had some sort of undesirable experience at, there would be nowhere I could shop.

I have had poor customer service, at Wal Mart, Canadian Tire, and Home Depot, among others. I have also had excellent customer that surpassed my expectations at Wal Mart, Canadian Tire and Home Depot.

This is the nature of big box stores. There will always be people that slip through the cracks who have no etiquette or common sense and somehow end up getting a job where they deal with the public, but you can only get to know them so much in an interview, and managers can't monitor them every minute they are at work.

It's unfortunate because there are some good people at these stores, who do want to help.

I went into Home Depot last week and had to traipse all over the store to find an employee who wasn't pretending to be busy. Once I did, they just pointed to the aisle that had the item I asked for and walked off. Nice service, huh?
I guess, as Canadians, we put up with it, don't we?

I went on Vacation to 2 US states and in both, got the worst service I have ever gotten. So it's not just us canadians. It's everywhere. Shitty employers, shitty employees, shitty store owners. :/

You must work for Canadian Tire. Your spelling and atrocious grammar show you have the right aptitude for a position there.
I couldn't give a rat's arse what Canadian Tire "workers" think. They won't get another cent of my money. Give me a shitty attitude and you'll never see me as a customer again. I'll go to a place that's friendly and reasonable, and they'll earn my money.
The whole underlying attitude of Canadian Tire seems to be that you people are doing us a favour by opening your doors to us. I think it's time for you to, as you say, "get a real dude".

When I want service I see my local Home Hardware dealer... at least you know who you are dealing with and have someone to reason with. Having said that, I agree with the above.... good & bad employees everywhere.

Retail is a tough business.... glad that I'm not in it.

Home Depot has been going down hill for years now. Service is not good and employees difficult to find.

Interesting enough, this and other reasons is affecting it financially and they got themselves in serious financial trouble last year. (mainly in the U.S.)

1-Most stores do have crummy employees. There are many that are good as well though.
2-Quite often the people who receive the bad service are usually rude and/or ignorant people. Highly demanding that they're always right. It could never have anything to do with the attitude they walk in the store with. If you walk in and rip a rep who doesn't really have anything to do with the actual problem, they're not likely going to bend any rules to help you. Plain and simple.

It's sort of a general problem nowadays. NO manners, just all about ourselves. We all need to remind ourselves that we all work, we all make mistakes. It doesn't matter what level we feel we are at, all (most!) people do deserve dignity and respect. I've had the unfortunate circumstances where I find myself stepping in to help out when a customer at a store feels its well within their rights to yell and scream at someone just because, for example, they forgot their receipt at home and don't want to go back to get it for a return. Sure, 95% of people are honest and that shouldn't be a problem. Sadly, we live in a world of dishonest people. That is why those guidelines are there.

Take a few minutes and breath. Is it really worth blowing a gasket over anything small in life. There are always situations where it may lead to that. But, far too often, it doesn't need to escalate to that level!

Anyways, my two cents.

To a degree you're right, but just last week, I went to HD to buy a snowblower....

I spent 15 mins with an associate who was trying to be helpful.
I was told Arien is a good brand , my friend has been using one for years and he swears it starts on first pull everytime.
So, I searched around and saw that well, HD has stock but is priced higher. No big deal since they have price match / price beat policy.

Well, after I spent 15 mins with an associate who was trying to be helpful, she decides its not in her power to do the price match / price beat herself. She ask me to wait, while she gets someone to help.
30 mins later, "he" shows up at the counter with another customer who apparently bought a lot of cabinets and received all the doors in mismatched colors.... anyways, so I waited patiently for another 20~30 mins...
then he turns around to me and before I even said a word, he said to me :
"yeah yeah I know what you going to show me, this place in oshawa, its cheaper than us but it is not same model.,.."
so I tried to explain to him, the store I wanted him to look at was not in Oshawa but before I even finished my first sentence he cut me off saying:
"anyway, it doesn't matter, we have turned down lots of people asking... so it won't be right if I Pricematch for you"
at that my manner switched from the polite customer to a pissed off one, and told him I don't really CARE what he DID or DID NOT do for other customers. I am there for my purchase and that alone. You have a policy, follow it. It was a page on ARIEN website / store, so they can't even use the "oh but they are not authorized dealer" bs. Finally he said ok leave your number I'll check it tomorrow and call you back. and When I asked when he said before 3pm for sure.
Well, this is 10 days later, no call.
