More warnings about automotive service at Canadian Tire, in response to the jumping-the-gun-again "What Does Spring Maintenance Mean" thread:

Graham Dutton It means keeping my car far from Canadian Tire

Paul Robinson Canadian tire has no clue about maintenance at any time of year, their focus is to cheat people out of money.

Shawn S It means to go anywhere but Canadian Tire to have your maintenance done .. Because they know everything they find wrong .. they sell you parts..So they nit pick everything for more $$$$$$$$

Barry Tyerman Are u kidding service at Canadian tire??? A bunch of fucking morons!!

Andrew Bartholomew Chaplin It means going to a garage with better mechanics and better supervision than Canadian Tire can hire at the rates they pay. Sorry, you're just not good enough.

Andrea McDonald Waiting til closer yo actual spring before ecven talking about it. Then going to my Ford deaker, who does the actual work, rather than creating a "make work" project like the local Can Tire did.

Sue St-Pierre Better places and better prices. Ya you got that right and I' d throw in better service while I'm at it lol

Bill Gratton I hate the mechanics ripping me off

Gerald Macdonald never taking my truck to canadian tire again!...rip offs.

Gary Neil Corbett Ladies - never take your car there for work - see what Marketplace says about them - they sell you parts you don't need and pad your bill

Doug Martin I had a problem with canadian tire in stoney creek years ago, got my money back from head office, never trusted them again ,they are history

Dan Murphy not bringing my vech to Canadian Tire so I don't have to worry about my oil filter falling off or my fan coming off my newly installed waterpump and going through my hood or radiator

Usually they just mess up the cars, and not the owners:

Terry Martin Oh, and spring maintenance DEFINITELY does not mean going to Canadian Tire. The last time I did, the mechanic at the Nepean Hunt Club store asked me into the service bay while the car was on the hoist to point out a loose tie rod end, so he shook the undercarriage and a socket the size of a beer can fell off the radiator and hit me in the head, sending me to the hospital for observation and tetanus shots. When I later called the store, the store manager would not only not take my call, he would not authorize them to give me a few dollars break on the bill.

Raquel Telford Let this be my OFFICIAL DISLIKE post for Canadian Tire. After causing a crack in my windshield when I took the truck to get the wipers changed, they gave us the run around for 4 days only to deny any responsibilities even though we have taken the truck and had it examined by Ford dealer and Car Canada and both agreed that the crack had started right at the base of the wiper.

Just came across this on the Smart Canucks site.

The story and some of the follow-up comments are a few years old ... and yet, we keep hearing stories exactly like these, even years later! Just a coincidence, I suppose, after they sunk all that money into 'revitalizing' their 'core' automotive business!

Canadian Tire Automotive: Cheaters Canada

Not a horror story, but a funny response to a house-wares thread on the CT Facebook site:

Jordan Cousins Well given how awful they are when it comes to vehicles and maintenance, makes sense they are going to branch out into something that is harder for them to screw up.

Update from Lin Cripps:

Lin Cripps Almost 3 months now and Can Tire, Unicity, Winnipeg has still not dealt with my complaint, just how long should it take to pick up the phone and make that call????

Another over-charge:

Mark DeRyck I would like to point out that CAN TIRE have failed my parents in getting their car fixed. MY LORD WHAT PASSES FOR A MECHANIC THESE DAYS? when a simple key has cost my parents who are elderly close to $1500... for an egniton key.. REALLY.. Musta skip that class..

Maybe Brakes deserves its own thread, like Tires and Oil Changes?

At least he eventually got his money back.

Brad Schamber Canadian Tire on the south side of Edmonton 3830 Calgary trail has rip off mechanics - after an inspection and replace the brake pads-rotors and drums $1100 - my caliper seized up on front tire the next day - and they wouldn't pay to replace calipers- but did get customer service in Toronto to pay for it -lost a day's pay

Rolly Barker They need to hire mechanics not technicians, I get lucky when I buy stuff here, but I will never let them work on my vehicle s again

Unnecessary repair was recommended:

Kirk Harris Your company dropped the ball so hard it smashed into tiny pieces. We took our vehicle in to have work done. The TECH said we would that the work that was done to the vehicle 30 days prior by the manufacturer dealership was not done. Your Tech. didnt show us the issue . it was a TAKE MY WORD FOR IT comment. We went back to the dealership to verify what Your company had said and they insisted they did the work.....went to a completely different dealership and was told that it was...I WILL NEVER shop at Canadian Tire Again. As we all know in business word of mouth means everything and believe me i have told my story to friends and family. A serious black eye n your company and your values ....even if it is the actions of one TECH........sad very sad.

'Nother:

Veteun Bannasingthong @Kirk Harris It's been a week and I'm still waiting for a call back from them regarding a service issue discrepancy. THEY misquoted me for repairs and forced me to pay an extra $400+ to get my car out of their shop. What could I do? I was there at 830pm, with no way home, and no one from their repair counter was willing to help. I escalated the issue to Customer Relations...had to wait for a call back from them. The person who called me back pretty much told me that there's nothing they could/would do...wouldn't even listen to anything I was saying. I requested it be escalated further and here I am waiting.... CANADIAN TIRE - YOU WILL CONTINUE LOSING CUSTOMERS BY CARRYING ON THIS WAY. I am utterly disgusted with the lack of empathy your Associates have displayed and the manner in which your business is conducted. MAJOR FAIL for Canadian Tire. I will never promote your services or products again.

This from March 1st:

Tanya Zigomanis Koroneos Please do not go to Canadian Tire in Vaughan - they just broke a part on my husband's vehicle that was in for service. An aesthetic part on the inside of the car that is costly and had nothing to do with the tires being changed and serviced. We are voicing our complaints however they have denied responsibility. Their story does not add up. We are very upset with this situation.

And a follow-up today:

Tanya Zigomanis Koroneos They have not helped us at all and they have denied liability. This was done by telephone only via head office. Is the above email any different? We are long time customers of this company and will never go back, thinking about our options to take this publicly and further it's the worst customer service we have ever experienced. Do not take your vehicle to Canadian Tire will be the message I aim to get across to anyone I know. I do not complain about anything and this is unacceptable.

Once again Canadian Tire decided to spam Canadian Facebook users.

Instead of drumming up more business, they provoked an out-cry from Canadians who have been ripped off by CT.

Here are some responses to the question, “How would you rate your auto mechanic skills on a scale from 1 to 10?”

---

EJ Robichaud Compared to a Canadian Tire Mechanic? 14

G. Donald Hamilton Personally, I get an expert and not likely with your company. To many there have caused my and friends grief and not happy driving!!!

Bertsheila Bamford 10 + and do semi trucks too never have a canadian tire person touch my car or any of my kids car every again

Christopher Paul Rogers From Canadian Tire, they are all below 0

Linda Lawrence Well I wouldn't go to Canadian tire ever.

Vincent Mercier I been once to canadien tire to fix my car, never again, the mecanics broke my wippers then suggested I change them because they were broken :S

Dawn Hamilton 4 at best - but I'd trust myself over a Canadian Tire mechanic. You guys are ... terrible for vehicle repairs!!

Jim Carroll If it is from Canadian Tire I have heard horror stories

Mirta Fonseca canadian tire is there to make money and screw the coustomers

Andrew Martin I wouldn't take My Wheelbarrel to Canadian Tire for repair They Rip So Many innocent people that dont know anything off.......

Jeff Piper canadian tire 2 me 9.5 atleast i can change the oil

Glen Vienneau I know someone who got their oil change at Canadian Tire, almost ruined their engine because the mechanic didn't properly put the filter cap back on. It was leaking oil for a month before the oil light turned on and started to leak more oil before it got checked out elsewhere. From the same company who's staff once chase me down the street accusing me of being on their security cam stealing a bike. Once they found out it wasn't me, I never even stepped foot in that store, they never as much given an apology after illegally detaining me for 20 minutes (In retrospect, I should have just called the cops). Thank you Canadian Tire for the great service.

Don Beaumont The good Mechanics at Canadian Tire leave to find higher income.. Personally I don't go there anymore because of the insistence of a diagnosis along with the charge that goes with it.. What ever happened to free estimate?

Beth Mckenzie Canadian Tire -10

Colleen Russell Campbell You never know if they are screwing you or not

Bill Vail I'd go up against your guys any day. 10!!

Robert Silver me 7, ctc mechanics 3

Adrian Luhowy How would I rate them?...people I'm forced to accept services from and expect to be ripped off by (by either being charged for work that wasn't done, or enduring work that was done poorly or not at all).

Blair Davidson Better than yours Canadien Tire.
Blair Davidson Your commission is the rip off.

I'll count this is a Facebook 'update' from the awesome Destiny:

Destiny Hodgins I do not like CT - in fact I've had major issues with your company. Please stop spamming my news feed.

Then some moron decided to chirp her. She answered:

Destiny Hodgins Scott - I have not liked the page, not do I follow it. I have followed all the directions to remove the posts from my news feed however they continue to appear on my iPhone.

Seems typical of repairs attempted by CT:

Brad Schamber*well had my brakes done in edmonton at canadian tire calgary trail-rotors, drums, pads and shoes-and out of province inspection-drive 4 hours calipars seize fixed at canadian tire in Okatooks-2 weeks ago brake light comes on so I check fluid and fill it*up light goes out-keeps going low -towed in to canadian tire in Trail-calipars leaking, emergency brake seized and need something kind of drum housing or something another $1000 should canadian tire not cover all this they messed them up -3 canadian tires in a month $2200 plus lost wages never again 2 canadian tire--

Karen S.: Yes Canadian Tire has dishonest policies. Just took my car in for emission test at Warden and Eglinton. Was not informed that check engine light being on will fail car even if the emission test is okay nor was I told I should drive it for 20 minutes prior to the test. You get the information after your car is tested and of course fails. I know I should have been smarter and taken it to real mechanics but I won't make that mistake again. I will definitely not be a repeat customer in the auto department or any other department in Canadian Tire.

Marwyn H.: Not impressed with the store in Calgary. Left my car there 3 weeks ago going on week 4 still getting run a round sheesh come on

Martin J.: Worst place to bring your car! They installed my brake lines in reverse...it's even written on the part which side they are for!
CT said that is "doesn't matter".... Then why does Mazda go to the extent o stating which side is which??? ... don't take your car there.
