John R.: If Canadian Tire insists they are all about customer service then answer me this. Why is it CTC requires someone to show their drivers license for returns over $20.00? Why do you need my drivers license info? That is none of your business. I purchased something, didn't like it or had an issue and I just want to return it. No other stores ask for info like this and neither should CTC. I have yet to have a decent experience returning something to CTC which is why I drive further to go to Lowes or HomeDepot because they don't give anyone a hassle. Also CTC product quality has dropped considerably over the years.

Chock up another boycott announcement to The Power Of Sam (to bring out all the skeletons, that is!):

Aaron R. O.: You know. I would have remained silent but this pops up on my Facebook newsfeed. I do not shop ct anymore. After a number of bad experiences at three stores I am done dealing with ct. I have never been treated so badly at any other box store.

Almost missed this one, hidden in the 'sports are good for kids, so buy our sports crap' thread:

Christina W.M.: You still dont have my business Canadian Tire.

The CT spam really is just pullin' in the boycott announcements!

Rick H.: The "technicians" (because they don't have real mechanics) at their Nanaimo store screwed up an axle seal replacement. Their technician (probably some 18 year old kid) failed to notice 1/8" of wear on my axle (that is huge). I had to take it back to get it fixed, and then it failed again 3 weeks later. They then offered me some backyard mechanic solution (Speedi Sleeves). I took it to a real mechanic who replaced the axle as should have been done in the first place. When I threatened to sue to recover the lost income I incurred as the result of their incompetence, their national investigator informed me they would reimburse me for the botched work...the amount they charged me for their 2 botched repair attempts. And rather than apologize for my inconvenience and offer me maybe a free oil change or something to retain me as a customer, he told me that the axle was not worn at all when they looked at it. It somehow magically wore a full 1/8" in 2 weeks. They called me a liar even though I had pictures and the affidavits of 3 licensed mechanics to confirm the state of that axle. I used to browse the Canadian Tire flyers that come in our newspaper. Now they go straight in the garbage. I will never set foot in another Canadian Tire, and I will tell anyone who will about their store, where the customer is sadly views as the enemy.

Some emphatic follow-up:

I now live in Langley, but spent the first 40 years of my life in Nanaimo. I will enjoy recounting this story of incompetence to everyone of my friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in Nanaimo I can possibly get to listen.....or anyone else anywhere for that matter.

#293 (provoked by the latest Spam):

Elvis S.: Wow. Keep it up Canadian Tire. Keep stocking garbage and continue pushing more customers away. I used to be the biggest Canadian Tire fan but I stopped shopping there. I went from being almost a daily shopper to using it as a last resort (maybe twice a year).

#294:

Rosanne G.M.: Worse customer service EVER!!!!!!! The story I could tell, but to keep it short and sweet..never ever ever shopping there again!

#285:

Dave G.: biggest RIP OFF scaming warranty policies of any store I have ever had to deal with. if you buy a big ticket item on sale there you`ll gets screwed if it has to go back. "no sir you only paid $219.99 , and its back to reg price $399.99 so we wont exchange it, but heres your refund in the form of a gift card" After spending thousands annually there, they will NEVER get a penny frm me again. If you`re a big asshat, then apply for a job there at customer service (very loosely used term there btw) they might hire you, seems that's who work that desk.

Longer version:

Dave G.: The christmas before last I purchased a canadian tire wire feed welder on sale, for around 220 dollars. It up and died a year and a half later. I was checking the manual for a possible fuze/breaker issue, no luck, but found it had a three year warranty. After dealing with a less than pleasent and far frm helpful customer service representative (using the term SERVICE loosely) I called a toll free number for a repaire depot.

Unable to repair I get a certificate, for "replace/refund" I walked back to the welders and yes...mine was in stock...happy happy joy joy....NOT. I was told that replacing was not an option because I had only paid 220 for the welder and its now at retail regular price of 399...WHAT????? SERIOUSLY???? So refund it is...well sort of...in the form of a canadian tire gift card. Stuck waiting for the welder to go on sale again I guess.

I then decided that after the anal violation (excuse the expression) I got for getting a "deal" at canadian tire was not going to happen to me again, kicked in the extra cash and bought it at full retail for 399. It was the last one, box was open but looked like it was just open and never removed ( not the case at all!!) I then, just a day or two after, I got a serious back injury, and wasnt able to walk let alone pull out the welder and get back to my projects.

So finally after a couple of months I pull it out for a quick welding repair, and the "trigger feed" was broken and jamming up the wire feed. Oh well..it has a FULL warranty....right? HA ha ha ha ~snort~ ha ha , what a joke. Recalled the 90 day store exchange in the warranty info i repacked it n headed up to canadian tire once again.

Purchace date..06/16/2013...return date..08/16/2013....yeah baby...I am going to get satisfaction.....good grief will I ever learn? The more pleasent young lady at canadian tire customer service (using the term SERVICE ever more lightly) informs me it only has a 90 day exchange and im too late ( I`m sure thats what she said) being in a very foul mood (layed off frm my job permanently, and still in severe pain) I decided to take the high road and not allow her to hear my misplaced (somewhat) aggression, and walked out.

Took the welder to the repair depot, and just got it back (working even!) (add shock) on 09/16/2013. I have over the years, being a car guy, automotive electronic tech, fabricator, and all round tool guy, spent thousands and thousands of dollars (often more than the competition because canadian tire is CANADIAN)

Well let me tell you....I will never shop canadian tire ever again, friends, family all have been informed that I wont accept gifts from there either. friends an the rest of the public will also read this as a warning to all the fair treatment I, a very loyal customer has received.

Catherine S.: I purchased a Microwave that ended up to be defective. I returned the Microwave to the store in the original box with the receipt. Since the purchased was over the 3 month mark i was told I could exchange it for another Microwave which I declined. I was not given a return of money in the ways purchased it, nor a gift card. I was told because it was past the 90 day period I could purchase something of that value today. There was nothing I needed nor wanted that day. I was told it was their policy and yes I would have to keep coming back to see if there was anything I would like to exchange it for. In the meantime I would have to keep the Microwave at home or in the car until I saw an item or items that i would like to exchange it for. I was amazed at this return policy as it used to be very reasonable at one time. Needless to say I purchase products from companies that have a good and consistent return policy just in case I have a need to use it.

Lots of reports of Crappy Tents, after that Spam:

#296:

Adam F.: I bought this same tent. One year later is falling apart already. Tried to return. Or at least get a new one. Stored moved to different location and they will not help me. Not pleased. Will not be shopping here any longer. Had 3 bad customer experiences in a row at different locations. Too bad

OK, this one is new:

Kim H.: The Canadian Tire on Robertson Rd put a dent in my car while working on it. After numerous verbal complaints to them, and two written letters to the service manager I got exactly nothing back. Wouldn't ever deal with them again. I live in Thunder Bay now and will never use the service dept.

Len P.: Turning into a junk store with no after sale service, I will no longer shop there, after having been a loyal customer for years If you want details email me...

Dave E.: I want to Warn potential customers about one of the scams they run at Canadian Tire. They sell you a supposed 9 year hassle free warrant on your batteries. The warranty only covers 3 years hassle free. After the 3 years are up (which isthe same warranty you get free with the battery) you have to pro rate the cost of the battery. So first off the increase in battery cost goes to the client, and secondly, the first 3 years count towards the pro rated cost. So my original $100 battery with a $15 extended warranty, cost me $72.00 to replace one year after the three year warranty was up (even tho i had paid for an extended 6 years). The store manager told me it was written in the fine print, but i was very specific asking questions when i bought the battery.

Dave E.: i also want to say, that i raved about this warranty to a few friends who had boats, and atvs, and they said the same thing when i told them about my experience. "they were told it was hassle free replacement for 9 years" After calling customer relations, they were as useful then the janitor at the store on the subject. I mentioned that i ran a business and if my employees made a mistake, that i covered the cost. They (being a multi million dollar corporation, who just spent millions on the renaming Scotia Bank Place) were more interested in losing a 25 year customer, and any good reviews that would come from me. I wont ever shop at that place again, instead, i will give all my business to stores where the customer comes first Stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Napa, Princess Auto, and of course Costco. All those places stand behind there products. Motomaster is junk, and even though it is the only store you can buy it in, and even though the battery says "3 YEAR WARRANTY" right on the battery, and even though the battery is Date stamped, they would not do a damn thing for the consumer. I hope others stop supporting companies with no morals.

In the words of Gerard Butler: "300!"

Garth C.: Tried three greenworks products at different times and they all just died in a short period of time. I just can't give CT any loyalty or my business anymore. They sell products that simply do not perform and I hate their ads popping up on my news feed.

Garth C.: Seems FB was updated and your posts are removed however it saddens me that this is all you address and no comment is made about the lack of quality in your greenworks products.

Steve B: Just received my flyer from C-Tire and the 23 page insert has not a word of english. I guess we ( Eastern Townshipers) don't count for much anymore. I'll be taking my business south of the border where the prices are better and I'm shown a little respect.

It's becoming such a familiar, oft-repeated story.

There is a happy customer, who for years became used to enjoying generous return policies, and perhaps willing to forgive poor in-store service or the rude teenagers at the cash.

But then, the customer suddenly becomes a disgruntled, betrayed ex-customer. Tsk-tsk.

Paul F.: There was a time when CTC was a second home for me. I bought everything from CTC that I could possibly buy but yesterday you lost a long time customer, its been over 35 years of buying things from Canadian Tire. Those days are now a part of my past and here's why. I was looking to purchase a hack-saw. Price nearly killed me $17.95 for a tool I might use once or twice in a year. Better to go to the local Dollar Store, they may sell cheap but who wants to pay that kind of money for a hack-saw? Ripped off is how I felt as I walked out of Canadian Tire for the last time. My days of buying anything from you people ended yesterday.

Never mind, though - The Moaner/Owner is still making money, so all must be well, right?

Yvonne H.: Honestly, they just forward it to the local manager, who then talks their way around the issue, refusing to accept responsibility. I guess they teach their managers that a single dissatisfied customer can do no damage to their reputation when they are that big....After all what's one voice amongst thousands. I have had similar experiences at the store in Squamish for years. My mother in law fought with them for years as well. Now go to Home Hardware and buy anything at all, they tell you if it stops working for any reason with a year bring it back and they will replace it or refund at the counter. Same with Home Depot, Rona, True Valu, even Walmart..

Mario A.: So after all of this, I WILL make a better informed decision, and that will be to shop elsewhere so I do not need to endure the frustration.

Mario A.: And you're right, 'the policy is the policy' so my policy is there won't be a next time because I won't ever shop there again!!! So go ahead and be proud of that 'great policy'!
