The battery I bought from Canadian Tire stopped charging after a few days. I went back, and the manager totally agreed it was faulty, and they agreed from my receipt it was less than 1 week old. However, they absolutely refused to refund my money because some small ID sticker was missing from thebattery. (I didn't even know what they were talking about.) I even wrote the CT head office & they STILL refused the refund!! Don't forget I had a 5-year warranty!!!

Once again, if you can avoid it, don't buy from Canadian Tire. Since then I've bought all my car supplies including tires, batteries, etc from WALMART & I'm happy I did! ...Mr. E.

Yeah that sticker thing sucks. It's from Exide, the maker of the battery. Going away this year sometime I hear

So rather than do the right thing and honor the 5 year battery warranty, what does Canadian Tire and the store do? Oh that's right, bend the customer over and stick it to them. And what's Canadian Tire doing in the mean time? Bending over more customers? Run into the ground by morons.

    Hello,

The Vent Sticker contains the matching serial that was placed on the warranty. The serial number is like the VIN number on your car.

Without the sticker, that Canadian Tire store still should have offered to do what is called a "Customer Satisfaction Date Code". The Battery is returned as defective using the date code as the original purchase without using the warranty form. The customer would then pay at least 50% of the original cost of the battery (whatever is more). The result, you would get a brand new battery for at least 50% the cost and a brand new full warranty in exchange for the old battery.

Thank you CT Manager. It would have been nice to know that at the time. It would have made all the difference in the world, except the part about paying 50% towards a new battery that SHOULD HAVE WORKED. I'm not mad at you CT Manager, but frustrated. Now, how as a customer, should I have known precisely that bit about the internal policy, if not for that but for something similar? What could I have done differently from the start, again, not knowing the internal workings of canadian tire? Why didn't the head office do anything to help the customer? Shouldn't they have known that ? A real response please and not the ones from the insulting ct cowards trolling this site attacking customers.

Unfortunately that satisfaction return isn't part of any policy. It's at the stores discretion but most stores will do this for the customers unless the battery was voided due to warranty terms.

ie. Frozen battery, Abused, overcharged (inflated), terminals broken, cracked, corroded). Casing is either in bad shape or extremely hot (ie. due to overcharging by the alternator or voltage regular incorrectly set).

Customer relations likely wouldn't have been able to force the store but perhaps (in many cases) could have offered the suggestion to help satisfy the customer.

I am sorry you had to go thru this :-(

Do you still have the battery? If would suggest taking it to another store and if they decline, to say you were told they could do a "date code" on the battery.

    Best of luck. :-)

bought a diamond 3100 psi pressure washer honda engine about 3 years ago. Thought honda engine good, checker plate and sturdy hand rail good-- trouble with surging started, so thought to get repaired. Not that much use so just maybe a simple o-ring replacement... Tried calling number on box given to me by staff at CT. During call asked to enter 5 or 6 digit number to connect to that called number but was warned there would be 3 dollar charge. Tried website for diamond but could not enter postal code, only space for U.S. states. Tried finding service repair in Edmonton, for 2 to 3 hours, web searches, local calls etc. Nothing, never heard of it. Finally found shop in St. Albert who would even look at it. I'll never purchase another machine similar to this EVER again at a store like CT. IF I was to ever purchase another pressure washer, I would find a reputable dealer here and pay the extra 100.00. Now makes me wonder about the "lifetime warranties" on screwdriver sets I paid 13.99 for...

Sorry girls but i'm calling bullshit on several of these recent posts. I believe this to be an attempt by LER or some other clown to bring the topics back to apparent CT Failures on account of the fact this forum has become a total joke and not at all related to canadian tire anymore. I believe they have done so by lying. hey, you're a liar haha where do we hear that all the time.

1 - No canadian tire batteries carry a 5 year warranty. So you who are posting it - you are a liar
2 - It took me no more then 45 seconds to google Diamond Pressure Washers and the top link was diamond power products. - click contact us. - click esupport yellow button. type in edmonton, alberta and had 4 edmonton area authorized service depots instantly. So after 2 hours you found nothing? Liar

I'm with you on the pressure man. CT sells crap, or if it's good crap they'll fuck that up too!

Ignore that canadian tire clown. He calls bullshit on everything and blames the customer for getting themselves ripped off.

Re: "Repair Only Warranty" - No Refund, No Exchange

Sorry for the delay – I was out of the country and didn't have internet access.

    ---

I’d like to relate my experiences at one more major retailer in Canada: Home Depot.

Recall that I'm asking all retailers the following question about pressure washers and lawn mowers:
"If I take it home and it doesn't work, how much time do I have to get a refund?"
    1 – Store Web Site

The official Home Depot Canada refund/exchange policies is here:
The site covers online purchases as well as those made in the store.

    Regarding in-store merchandise, it says:
“Items Purchased in Our Stores …. Returns with an Original Sales Receipt Within 90 Days of Purchase … Any purchase made … will be refunded …”
It goes on to list the options for various methods of payment, but they all say 90 days.

But is there might be a loop hole:
“The Home Depot reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason.”
So, is there a policy where they routinely deny refunds? Maybe the Customer Service line will have an answer.

    2 – Customer Service Line

    The number is 1-800-628-0525.

To be frank, I had to wait for several minutes to get through, and on the weekend I spoke with Heather, who seemed young and not very confident, so I called back on a week night, when I spoke with Katarina (do you think they use their real names?).

Katarina told me that there’s a minimum of 30 days for a refund on a pressure washer or lawn mower, and possibly longer on some models. She told me there was no difference between gasoline-powered and electric models.

I asked about the store “reserving the right” to refuse refunds. Katarina told me that this is for unusual cases, such as suspected fraud, and that this would be used.

I also asked about warranties, and Katarina told me that the store is “responsible” for the products during that time, and after that time the manufacturer’s warranty applies.

Based on these findings, I’m giving Home Depot full marks:
    “A” (Refunds Provided).
Note that all stores reviewed so far have received this same mark.

    3 – Internet Complaints

As before, I used the following search to see if there are routine complaints about refunds for pressure washers:

canada refund "pressure washer" problem complaint “home depot”

Strangely enough, all the Canadian pressure washer complaints I found were for Crappy Tires, and in the first 40, none were for Home Depot Canada.

    4 – In the Aisles

I visited a store, and looked at mowers and power washers.

The selection was far better than Costco or Walmart.

In the aisles, there were no signs about any special “Repair Only” or other terms for refunds, exchanges, repairs or warranties.

    5 – Customer Service Desk

I went to the Customer Service desk. Margaret was there, but she wasn't sure if it was 90 days or 30 days, so she asked Jill, the Seasonal Manager.

Jill said a refund or exchange for 30 days.

Is it my choice, or the store’s choice? Jill said it was my choice.

I asked if there was a different rule for gasoline equipment. She said the gasoline needs to be removed, for store safety.

As with all the stores I checked so far, there were no surprises.

There was a bit of confusion in the store as to the actual number of days a customer has to return pressure washers and mowers for a refund, but in the end, its at least 30, and that's all I was looking for.

    -----

Next up: let's just say, “Bring It On”.
