Yah, good chance this will be unbiased, and not omit any information that might actually shed a positive light on ct

you are pessimistic that davidLer is going to hide things

the sources are can be verified

you are optimistic that there will be any information that would be positive

we all know how much cts pressure washers and policies suck

I like it....let's say the stores are in Peterborough, for arguments sake, I wouldn't mind the links to their return policies online.....they each have one. Not to take your word for it, but I'd like a true comparison. Thanks

Unregistered?

Is that you?

Because we've got some things to discuss.

Do you really have:

contempt for people with mental illness

Is that why you use "meds" as an insult?

Do you really want to deny all mentally ill people the right to "post commentary on web forums."?

Do you want to deny them a right that you want to keep for yourself?

Does that include people with depression? With autism? Anxiety disorder? Aspergers? OCD? DIDS?

Do you think a person who has an illness can't be correct in their statements?

Do you really think that any person with any mental illness can be accurately compared to a predatory pedophile?

---

Do you really think that anyone who advocates for consumers' rights can be accurately compared to predatory pedophiles?

Do you really think that anyone who advocates for consumers' rights online is "praying [sic] on the innocent with your lies and hidden personalties."?

Do you really think that everyone who advocates for consumers' rights "don't KNOW anything"?

That they "just ASSUME" they "know everything"?

Do you think that all these people "make societies weak"?

What, exactly, is the "union mentality", and how does it relate to Canadian Tire's "repair only" policy on pressure washers?

Ditto for the "the tide of state politics south of the border"?

----

Who are the "Achievers"? Is this a statement of how you see yourself?

Do you see yourself as having "a voice everywhere", that you "make policy" and "make solutions", "know how to get resolution to inevitable problems"?

Do you see yourself as one of the "majority" who "rules"?

Were all of those accurate statements that you will stand behind, and explain your view of the world?

Because those things say far more about you than anything you've written here so far.

i just dont want to see another hundred links to pointless warranty statements for products ct doesnt even sell

Agreed.

I'm more worried that LiarGuy and the prolific Unregistered (assuming they are different people) will respond with countless off-topic comments ("Repairs are a wonderful option!") and dispute every trivial fact ("Youre a liar - ours is a 1-866 number").

On with your findings DavidLer. Don't be distracted by CT dealers disdain for the middle class...just the poor customer who hasn't learned anything yet.

How many posters does DavidLer post under? Smart Consumer has had different posts with different language attached. Hard to keep all the personalties straight after a while. Check out the donation box at the top of the page. Be very careful people. Something is amiss.

I think you already covered this a while ago. Nice try, pretending you are two different Unregistered people, though.

Smart Consumer is also DavidLer......looking for your DONATIONS.....got to keep his business venture alive.

Luckily nobody believed you then either.

Actually I think my language is pretty consistent.

Plus don't forget DavidLer also runs this site.

And is part of the Illuminati.

And a Free Mason.

And is secretly reading your mind and plotting to poison you.

Have a good sleep tonight.

Hint: He's he's in the closet!

No, under the bed! Ahhh!!!

OK, a change of plan.

I’m going to start with Costco, to provide background on the policies of Canadian Tire.

Will we prove that Costco’s policies are just “variations of the same policy....not exact, but close enough” to Canadian Tire’s?

Is it true that “all of the other retailers … they all same the same damn thing. power equipment is repaired or replaced at the sellers discretion”?

Let’s have a look.

Recall that I'm asking all retailers the following question about pressure washers and lawn mowers:
"If I take it home and it doesn't work, how much time do I have to get a refund?"
If there’s a period of time, even a day, when all models of washers and mowers can be refund, then I’ll give the store an “A” (Refunds Provided).

If only an exchange is promised, then I’ll give the store a “B” (Exchange Provided).

But if there's a store policy where even one model of pressure washer or mower cannot ever be refunded or exchanged, then I’ll give the store a fail of “F” (No Refund, No Exchange).

I checked the following sources of information:

1 – Store Web Site

The official Costco refund/exchange policies is here:
(Forgive me if I've posted that before.)

“Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell and will refund your purchase price, with the following exceptions: … Electronics …. Diamonds”.

"Costco may in the future restrict its return policy regarding other products. Restriction will be shown at the point of purchase."

"We ask that you return all other merchandise within 30 days with a Costco receipt and in the original packaging. "

So far, it looks like you've got at least 30 days, on anything they sell. It doesn't say "unopened" or "unused" or "in original condition", so you should be able to try it out to see if is defective.

But let's look at other sources before drawing any conclusions.

2 – Customer Service Line

1-888-426-7826 (1-888-4-COSTCO).

There were recorded messages that answered common questions, and said all defective merchandise can be returned for a “full refund” within 30 days, in the original packaging. It didn’t mention “unopened”, “unused” or "original condition".

I then spoke to Diane, and asked my question about getting a pressure washier home and it not working. She told me that all merchandise can be returned within the first 30 days, and some items can be returned even after that time.

I asked Diane about electric models vs gas powered. She told me that the same rules apply: at least 30 days. For gas-powered, they want the gasoline drained ahead of time for safety reasons.

I also asked about gas and electric mowers. There is always at least 30 days to bring it back if it's defective.

So, I’m going to give Costco full marks:
“A” (Refunds Provided).
I also asked what the difference is between their refund policy and their warranty? The store has a policy for refunds and exchanges. The warranty is from the manufacturer, and applies after the store’s return period has expired.

3 – Internet Complaints

I also did some Googling (yes, that’s now a word!).

I used the following search:
canada refund "pressure washer" problem complaint costco
I put "canada" in the search to avoid U.S. complaints, but I think "canada" matched on this thread (“Repair Only Policy" - No Refund, No Exchange) a couple of times.

The first 40 hits were mainly notices of sale prices, specific models, or positive comments on Costco’s generous return policies. I read them all and didn't see a single complaint about a pressure washer refund from Costco in Canada. There might be some out there, but there certainly aren't many.

-----

So, do “other companies in the same business selling the same products as ct have the same procedure”?

Can we really say, “canadiantire's policy is exactly the same as all of the other retailers posted” on the CanadianTireSucks site?

Based on what we’ve previously learned about Canadian Tire’s “No Refund, No Exchange” policy on “Repair Only” items, I’m tempted to say, “Hell, No”.

Just to be sure, I’ll be taking a closer look at the Crappy Tire stores.

But first, I want to write briefly about my visit to Costco, and what I saw at the store. It's hardly the same as the CT Experience.

"Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell and will refund your purchase price, with the following exceptions: … Electronics …. Diamonds”.

Just in case anyone thinks that Electronics can't be refunded, the "exception" is that you get 90 days, instead of just 30.

(Maybe I'll check how many days you get at CT for electronics ...)

I didn't really look at the Diamonds section; presumably they don't want you to return a fake diamond, but get back the price of the real diamond.

ummm you've proven zero. I'm a lawyer and you've proven nada. Don't pass go. I don't work for Canadian Tire. They're 50000 employees strong. Alot of things happen in that store and with minimum wage uneducated thieving union minded employees we do our best with them. Take more of your meds because you're clearly lying and making sense the Canadian Tire way.

A few snippets from a web page…..this proves nothing.

You don’t know. You just assume. This is your interpretation only.....and you are wrong.

The Costco web site is very clear….they absolutely will send it out for repair. Nothing you write here will change that simple fact.

Make no mistake....Costco and every other major retailer in Canada have every legal right to send it for Repair Only…..this is good for customers because it keeps costs down.

I’m all for healthy debate, but we at CT know the law, you don’t.

I mean, they do. The store. Not me.

Customers are dishonest and we can’t trust them. I mean, the store can’t.

We....oops.....they....ABSOLUTELY has every right to protect ourselves.

Themselves.

This is the new world order implemented by the Achievers, and it’s working.

The apple digs here. Under hockey a symbol.

Ummm....you've proven nothing. Take more meds.

stop poking fun at the holes of the CT policy and the under achieving, under educated, over entitled minimum wage, middle class union people who provide bad service, not our policies, or I will use my real powers and real knowledge of CPA law and come up with a policy to automatically fine you for every bad thought you have of us and sue you in the supreme provincial court of canada if you don't pay. I will even call the police on you. That will teach you for having your own opinion and doing your own research against a mega mega billion dollar corporation with 50000 employees and 500 stores and you all can't be right or win against our army of real lawyers.

That is all. Don't pass go on a green light. Don't collect your aeropoints. Policies don't expire. Customers do!

Unlocked and unused or original condition only applies to return to stock items. Defects are a different situation, i.e. You would have to use something to know it was defective. Packaging won't matter for a defect.
Pressure washers have a 30 day exchange at CT for defective electric models and have to be sent to repair depot for inspection on gas models. If it is defective and exchange is done.
You need to get your facts straight.
FYI-CT sells more pressure washers than any other retailer in Canada

Unlocked and unused or original condition only applies to return to stock items.

your an idiot and a liar

ct jerk who doesnt even know their own rules

nobody says unlocked you cant even type

ct web site says original condition for any kind of refund or exchange - read it yourself

Defects are a different situation, i.e. You would have to use something to know it was defective. Packaging won't matter for a defect.

it will matter to ct - they will say screw you its not in original conditon

anyway if its repair only you are screwed either way

Pressure washers have a 30 day exchange at CT for defective electric models and have to be sent to repair depot for inspection on gas models. If it is defective and exchange is done.

you are a liar and a jerk

maybe 30 days for electric for cts own 1-800 number says the customer is screwed on gas powered - call the number

You need to get your facts straight.

got the facts straight - thanks for showing what liars all ct reps are though.

FYI-CT sells more pressure washers than any other retailer in Canada

nobody will believe anything you say - you ct jerks are all liars

even if you are right it just means ct cheats more canadians than any other retailer

better to buy this or anything else for costco

liar

My prior post summarized the Costco refund policies, which anyone can obtain from their web site or Customer Service line, and through complaints found on Google.

I also paid a visit to my nearest Costco store, to see if there would be more or different information. Maybe some surprise “Repair Only” policy that nobody had yet told me about, for instance?

I checked out the seasonal section, for pressure washers and lawn mowers. There were various products in the area, but no signs or posters describing their refund policies or describing any exceptions.

I went to the Customer Service desk, where an associate, Dana, was working. I asked her if there were any products at all that could not be refunded. She said that satisfaction was guaranteed, and that every product could be returned in at least 30 days. Some items could be returned even after 30 days, like electronics.

Does this applied to pressure washer and lawn mowers, I asked? She said that it did.

Does it apply to gas-powered machines, too, or only electric? She was a good sport and patiently told me that it was for everything in the store so, yes, both types.

I asked if their return policy was dictated by the manufacturer’s warranty. She didn’t seem to understand. It was a new idea to her.

So, I explained Canadian Tire’s “Repair Only” policy, where customers are stuck trying to get outdoor equipment fixed through the manufacturer’s warranty, because the store will refuse to give a refund or exchange.

Her jaw literally dropped – she could not believe that a retailer would operate this way.

That's when Dana gave me a hand-out that explains the policy of 100% satisfaction and refunds for items returned in the original packaging within 30 days.

So, there you have it.

No signs that may or may not be in the aisle telling you special rules.

No surprise policy you can only learn about from Customer Service (if you think to ask).

No contradictions.

Just the same message: at least 30 days for a refund.

And not at all like what happens at Crappy Tire, which I'll be describing in more detail later.

Are all stores "the same damn thing" as Canadian Tire?

Certainly not at Costco!

Next up either: Walmart or Home Depot. I haven’t decided yet.

That's when Dana gave me a hand-out that explains the policy of 100% satisfaction and refunds for items returned in the original packaging within 30 days.

It would have been funny if you went & bought one right then and took it to Dana for a refund!

Well maybe not so funny for her.

But funny.

And you could report whats on the back of the receipt, and how the return process works.

Maybe another day.

Won't be as funny though.
