i see some ct person was on here already claiming that there was something incorrect in there - not sure what that was supposed to be - its all bang on.

i called up the 1-800 number myself. total fabrication by this ct yahoo who says you'll get new unit. what a liar

like all the other ct'er have been confessing, "repair only" means exactly that - they'll fix it and then you are stuck with a used product. no thanks!

Last time, I checked the store web site policy for in-store purchases in Ontario. There was no clear answer on refunds or exchanges for defective items; just a cryptic statement about warranties.

2 – Customer Service Line

The “Customer Service” number is 1-800-387-8803.

I spoke with Janice about the Simoniz 2900 and asked her, “If I take it home and it doesn't work, how much time do I have to get a refund?"

She told me that it was "repair only" and therefore “nonrefundable”, so I would not be able to get a refund, even if I brought it back the same day.

Well, so much for an “A” rating. But maybe there's a chance they can get away with just a "B"?

So, I asked, “How much time do I have to exchange it for one that works?”

Janice said, “There are no exchanges on the Simoniz 2900, or on most gas-powered pressure washers”.

An “F” rating for Canadian Tire. “No Refund, No Exchange” on some items.

Janice volunteered that it could be retuned within 30 days if it was unopened - I guess this is one of the “exceptions” that are not listed on the web site. But if the customer can't find out that it's defective until they open it, then this doesn't really help.

I then went back to the web site, and did some more checking. That’s when I spotted the “warranty” statements for specific items, and some “exchange only warranty” items.

I called the 1-800 number again, and spoke to Brandon (the first male who answered one of these numbers for any store).

I asked him what the refund policy was for products that are listed on the site as having a “repair only warranty” or “exchange only warranty”.

Brandon told me that the “exchange only” items weren’t refundable, and neither were the ones that say, “repair only”.

So, still an “F - No Refund, No Exchange" for the “repair only” items.

Note that all the others retailers I checked have gotten a grade of “A – Refunds Provided" (for all types of pressure washers and lawn mowers). Every. Single. One. Something to keep in mind when you are deciding where to make your next big purchase.

Next, I’ll report on what I found on Google. The results were very surprising (and not in a good way, if you work for Crappy Tire).

Well given that this IS a hate canadian tire website AND that you've never seen anything with an objective opinion, i'm fairly confident I can say that no matter what you actually experienced, you would find a way to grade canadian tire an F and everyone else an A or a B.

There's not much to discuss really. You have your theories on where canadian tire is bad, how much money ct dealers make, the legality of certain policies and warranties, what x number of customers think about canadian tire, and that this website is "helping get the word out" about canadian tire. the problem is, they are only theories based on the experiences of a dozen (give or take) people.

When reality sets in, you might be fortunate enough to realize that you're not 100% correct. In fact very little of whats offered up here by the ct naysayers is correct. it's opinions only and usually viewed through shit coloured glasses.

There are currently atleast two ct dealers posting here regularly, myself and another, and from previous readings one or maybe two that haven't been heard from on here for a while. The impact of this website on our stores, our profits and ultimately our lives is zero. Most of us are million dollar guys.... net worths easily exceeding a million for the youngest and newest, and well into the tens of millions for those who've been at this even longer. we did our leg work well in advance, researched franchises, ROI's, advancement opportunities etc.... and guess what, I was not able to find anything even close to comparable to owning a Canadian Tire.

So keep your hypothesis to yourself, it's worthless. You have very little understanding of our business operations, our profitability, our customer satisfaction, our product defect rate, our policies and the law as it pertains to retail purchases. So continue as you will to trust eachother about what is right, what is wrong, and if you should ever be mifortunate enough to decide to take one of us to court... good luck with that. You might as well skip the pain and embarassment and just forward a cheque directly to my company for the amount, plus court costs, as you will lose

Anyway, good to see that consumers are sharing useful information here. It all help keep one-another informed.

Sorry comrade, this isn't a socialist nation and I'm proud to be a capitalist. When you've worked as hard as I have, taken the risks I have, made the sacrifices I have to become successful....then maybe your opinion would be worth something.
I've been in the customer service business for over 20 years with not too many complaints....but I have no use for the faker types, whether it be your poorly informed opinions or a "customer" who thinks he can put one over on me for his own benefit...ie. Use a tool for a one time job and then claim it to be defective for a refund. The law protects me against those gophers quite well.
As for calling bullshit on a new pressure washer exchanged for a defective one, I have personally done it. Only once out of over a hundred sales....not a bad defect rate at all.
I think DavidLer forgot to ask the Canadian Tire customer relations people if dealers can make exceptions....it's my business and I can do whatever I want to satisfy a customer.....but if they are an asshole like you.....they get to shop at Walmart....I'll try to survive on the other 700-900 customers each and every day, except for December when that number doubles. LOL

People buy from me every day....lots and lots of people.
There's no add money for this site, Parisi made his money off of porn, not the faker advocacy sites....it's all on google....better do your research before making more of a fool of yourself.

Well i for one like the information thats posted here. it helps me know what to expect in the stores. everythings been well researched and proven about how bad the canadian tire policies are.

then the store owners come along and tell a lot of lies, then say how all the research is wrong and just someones opinion.

but nothing else the stores wrote has turned out to be true so why should we believe them?

3 – Internet Complaints

To compare the various refund policies at major Canadian retailers, I’ve been Googling the following phrase:
So far, I’ve replaced “store name” with “Costco”, “walmart” and “home depot”. Feel free to duplicate my results for the various stores, and now for “Canadian Tire”.

My analysis only involved the first 40 hits (4 screens). 22 of them were complaints about pressure washer returns at Canadian Tire. This site (Canadian Tire Sucks) got several matches, along with Red Flag Deal, Complaints Board, “pissedconsumer” and others.

The other hits were about general consumer information, product reviews and other complaints. There were no complaints about pressure washer refunds from any other retailers besides Crappy Tire.

(Note that the Dick Smyth story came up 3 times, but that was an appliance complaint for Home Depot).

Compared to the other searches, there is a huge difference in the number of complaints for Canadian Tire. No other store had more than a few Canadian pressure washer complaints, and some stores had none.


Next, I’ll report on what I found in the Canadian Tire stores near me. It was also quite interesting.

As part of your analysis did you happen to consider that canadian tire sells more pressure washers then anybody else in canada? Just wondering

So your comparison would be like doing a Google search for number of recalls or defects or warranty work on cars General Motors vs. Subaru lol guess what, there's 10 times more GM's then Subaru's so naturally the number of complaints is higher.
Just somethign to consider with your "statistical analysis"
I do of course know that this type of information does not support your pre-determined outcome so I will assume it won't get factored in.

Feel free to provide some verifiable data on the relative market shares for pressure washer sales in Canada. Then we can have a look at updating the informal and unscientific findings for ‘Internet Complaints’ for the various retailers.

While we are waiting for you to come up with that, we should all make sure and tell our Mothers and our friends and neighbours that:

- Canadian Tire is the only major retailer to have either a “repair only” or an “exchange only” policy, where customers can’t get any refunds, ever, for defective products.

- Canadian Tire is the only major retailer that will insist on sending out-of-the-box defective products away for repair, instead of giving the customer at least an exchange.

- Canadian Tire’s web site doesn’t even mention their unique restrictions on refunds and exchanges.

- The only way to know if a product can be refunded by CT is to ask about each individual product, either at the 1-800 number of at the Customer Service desk.

- Many products at CT don't come with any warranty at all.


Oh, and I see you want to be the first on the board with a CT lie today:

It's not convincing unless they have a legitimate piece of evidence. You know how that works, right? A precedent is set in a court of law.....there is some basis to an argument, etc. Opinions don't make the laws others abide by....they create fodder like this in an environment like this.
Personally, I like it....but there is no way in a million years, that this is reality.
