I remember a thread about Dick Smythe having a problem with a pressure washer at Home Depot and being unsatisfied so was going to Canadian Tire. It was on Ellen Roseman or something. What was that one about?

Sorry for the delay – I was out of the country and didn't have internet access.

---

I’d like to relate my experiences at one more major retailer in Canada: Home Depot.

Recall that I'm asking all retailers the following question about pressure washers and lawn mowers:
"If I take it home and it doesn't work, how much time do I have to get a refund?"
1 – Store Web Site

The official Home Depot Canada refund/exchange policies is here:
The site covers online purchases as well as those made in the store.

Regarding in-store merchandise, it says:
“Items Purchased in Our Stores …. Returns with an Original Sales Receipt Within 90 Days of Purchase … Any purchase made … will be refunded …”
It goes on to list the options for various methods of payment, but they all say 90 days.

But is there might be a loop hole:
“The Home Depot reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason.”
So, is there a policy where they routinely deny refunds? Maybe the Customer Service line will have an answer.

2 – Customer Service Line

The number is 1-800-628-0525.

To be frank, I had to wait for several minutes to get through, and on the weekend I spoke with Heather, who seemed young and not very confident, so I called back on a week night, when I spoke with Katarina (do you think they use their real names?).

Katarina told me that there’s a minimum of 30 days for a refund on a pressure washer or lawn mower, and possibly longer on some models. She told me there was no difference between gasoline-powered and electric models.

I asked about the store “reserving the right” to refuse refunds. Katarina told me that this is for unusual cases, such as suspected fraud, and that this would be used.

I also asked about warranties, and Katarina told me that the store is “responsible” for the products during that time, and after that time the manufacturer’s warranty applies.

Based on these findings, I’m giving Home Depot full marks:
“A” (Refunds Provided).
Note that all stores reviewed so far have received this same mark.

3 – Internet Complaints

As before, I used the following search to see if there are routine complaints about refunds for pressure washers:

canada refund "pressure washer" problem complaint “home depot”

Strangely enough, all the Canadian pressure washer complaints I found were for Crappy Tires, and in the first 40, none were for Home Depot Canada.

4 – In the Aisles

I visited a store, and looked at mowers and power washers.

The selection was far better than Costco or Walmart.

In the aisles, there were no signs about any special “Repair Only” or other terms for refunds, exchanges, repairs or warranties.

5 – Customer Service Desk

I went to the Customer Service desk. Margaret was there, but she wasn't sure if it was 90 days or 30 days, so she asked Jill, the Seasonal Manager.

Jill said a refund or exchange for 30 days.

Is it my choice, or the store’s choice? Jill said it was my choice.

I asked if there was a different rule for gasoline equipment. She said the gasoline needs to be removed, for store safety.

As with all the stores I checked so far, there were no surprises.

There was a bit of confusion in the store as to the actual number of days a customer has to return pressure washers and mowers for a refund, but in the end, its at least 30, and that's all I was looking for.

-----

Next up: let's just say, “Bring It On”.

DavidLer, what do you make of these two websites: The Home Depot Sucks. Customer horror stories, employee complains. Home Deep Hell, Home Creepo and Home Depot sucks for sourcing and selling old growth lumber

Dick Smyth had a problem with a "Moffat range" that he'd owned for almost a year.

Do some research before making a fool of yourself on-line.

No, it was definitely a pressure washer.....trouble with the warranty at Home Depot. Please don't lie to cover your ass.

Are you even trying to be right, or do you just want to make a lot of pointless noise?

Take a minute or two to check things out before embarrassing yourself and all CT Owner/Liars so publicly.

The whole story is at "http://www.ellenroseman.com/?p=129".

You might want to actually read it before shooting off you mouth, and then your foot.

Dick Smyth wrote, "We bought a Moffat range at Home Depot". It's the very first comment. Please check things out before you post such nonsense.

If your problem is just a grade-4 reading comprehension level, please don't display your inabilities so blatanty here anymore.

Good point, though, about it being a warranty issue. So, this is also totally off-topic. This thread is about return policies. Try to stay focused, OK?

Hey, you know what? I did some more checking. He bought his pressure washer and power mower at Canadian Tire! So, any pressure washer warranty problems were with CT!

You've shown yourself once more to be the liar in these cases, and not every a very good one. That, or a total idiot.

LOL hilarious!

I just like jerking you around to get the real you to come out on this forum. Exposing your inadequacies has become a fun side hobby for me. People can read all about "big orange" and the poor service people wrote to Ellen Roseman about for themselves. You usually like to direct them away from such stories and don't like to answer questions around why people are happy with CTC.
Dick Smythe seemed quite happy with his purchase of a pressure washer from Canadian Tire.
You have also ignored the question as to why there are sites like homedepotsucks, walmartsucks, costcosucks, targetsucks, mcdonaldssucks, etc.
You just don't get it-you aren't all that smart and you keep getting called on it.

Wow, is there something in the water that's suddenly making all these CT Owner/Liars start confessing their sins? Will this trend continue as we approach Good Friday?

I notice the Owner/Liars stop short of actually issuing an apology, though, for all their lies and misinformation.

Oh, well, as long as they had some fun, right. That makes lying ok, I'm sure.

But who knew telling lies and misleading people could be a 'hobby'?

Actually, I thought this was just part of the job of working at Canadian Tire.

You'd think the Owner/Liars would want a break, and maybe start telling the truth on their time off, at least to get a break from the grind.

Apparantly they just love their work too much, and take it home with them, too.

What? There was a question? What question? A question about why these sites exist? No, there wasn't any such question. You are just a big fat ....

Oh, I get it! You are just having "fun" again.

I guess that's your 'newspeak' for being a liar.

Yah you got it guys, keep feeding bullshit about what you THINK Canadian Tire and our employees are. I'll just sit back with my Owner friends enjoying the lifestyle of making $10,000 profit per week. How's your bank account doing?

Really, we've figured out something you haven't, it's called opportunity, and owning something with the red triangle is as good as it gets. So you just work hard at "proving your point" and getting the message out to consumers LOL It's hurting, ouch it's painful. well it's noon, I think i'm going to kick out for the day and go swing the golf club for a few hours, while my business makes me money. How's your 9-5 job today?

The above is from this site. Nice business plan. I'll answer the questions as to why there are Walmartsucks.com, HomeDepot Sucks, Costcosucks, etc. They are online businesses trying to generate revenue by donation or advertising. Shame, Shame faker advocate.

Is that it? $10 k a week and you think you're king shit lol. Try making some real money.

Not bad for a new guy, only 3 years in business. I mean i suppose my half a million compared to your fortunes is nothing, i'm sure you're pulling atleast double... a cool million a year

liar

$10000 a week. I'd take that.

You'd have to be willing to lie to people and cheat them out of their legal rights.

Hey, maybe you could try drug-dealing. Make even more, faster!

How about human trafficing?

If you are going to thrown your morals to the wind, why just go half-measure?

Whoa comrade. Wouldn't want people thinking you're a socialist.

Typical CT liar/moron barfing more crap onto this site.

Show me where there's a "donate" button on Walmartsuck.

I'll make it easy for you - here's the link: WalmartSucks.org

How about Home Depot .org? The Home Depot Sucks. Customer horror stories, employee complains. Home Deep Hell, Home Creepo

Or .com? Home Depot sucks for sourcing and selling old growth lumber

Nope, not a single 'donate' button on any of them.

All this noise about business models, and it's all just based on lies.

Please, get a clue. You are only making yourself and your beloved CT store look more and more ridiculous.

It was actually more interesting when your lies were harder to disprove!

Home Depot Sucks protest sites <-------- send a donation link Home Depot Sucks. com

I stand corrected.

So only 1 lie, not 2.

You're still a liar about the other site, though.

Just like the return policies for mowers etc... you have to maybe click a link or two to land where you want. As usual, haters assuming it's all right in front of your face.

OK, so where's this link to the on-line return policy for CT mowers, saying that you get zero days to return it, even if it's defective?

Could this be <gasp!> yet another CT lie?

Thanks for acknowledging that every other retailer has a "sucks" site dedicated to it. I guess it's just "E-Commerce". Personally, I have a problem with others trying to exploit/manipulate people online with lies in exchange for money. The credibility factor goes out the window when someone has a hidden agenda. I guess you aren't a socialist after all.

Ouch.....getting disproven on a regular basis lately.....I guess it's easy when you lie so often and lack credibility. Sorry.
